Actually the more I think about this, the more I like the answer the movie actually gives. It’s not that the original bite left something unfinished, it’s framed as spiders going through multiple life cycles, and being caught between them makes them vulnerable before some kind of rebirth happens.

So Peter’s mutation isn’t some biological glitch years later, it’s a whole new stage his body’s entering, and what triggers it isn’t science, it’s his own isolation and grief. His AI literally says it, the longer he stays alone, the more spider and less human he becomes. I think that’s such a smart way to make a superhero’s biology actually mean something emotionally instead of just being comic book mechanics.

Honestly, this is actually one of the better-written parts of the movie if you really pay attention. His Spider-Sense only comes back because he stopped suppressing his powers, so if he had kept the inhibitor on, he wouldn’t have sensed the shot at all and Jean would’ve been the one hit instead.

That moment isn’t just about him accepting himself, it’s literally what saves her life. I feel like people miss things like this because they’re focused on big twists, but this is really solid writing hiding in plain sight.
