@WissamArz Radical idea: outsource LBN’s entire public sector & governance to 5,000 Singaporean civil servants.
Give them full authority. Tie their pay & incentives to measurable KPIs: GDP growth, unemployment, air quality, public services, fiscal...
No excuses. No politics. Just results.
@Salah_Halawi unpopular opinion: biggest issue isn’t that salaries are “low”. It’s that basic expenses are too high: schooling, utilities, transportation... Those should be way cheaper. & I’m not even going to get into the “عاملة منزلية” being treated as a basic cost of living. That’s absurd.
The Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra will be restored.
Thanks to the professionalism and swift actions of our emergency responders, the fires have been extinguished.
Russia attempted to destroy the Lavra for a second time – just as it did in 1941. Thankfully, we will not have to rebuild this Ukrainian shrine from its foundations.
The Government will secure funding for its restoration. As President Zelenskyy noted, the Government is preparing decisions to allocate resources from the reserve fund for urgent roof stabilization and its subsequent restoration.
We expect a response from international organizations to yet another barbaric act by Russia. I have instructed Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Affairs Tetiana Berezhna @BerezhnaT to intensify this work, including through the tools of the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund.
Since early morning, I have also received numerous messages from representatives of Ukrainian businesses and philanthropists willing to contribute to the restoration of this sacred site. Thank you for your shared values and readiness to help.
The Government, together with the reserve administration, will organize this process.
My deepest gratitude goes to Ukraine’s Defense Forces and the State Emergency Service teams, who are working selflessly at the attack site to save lives and protect our cultural heritage. 🇺🇦
No, sweetie.
Donetsk was a city of a million roses when its own Ukrainian flag flew above it.
Back then, it was also the fastest-growing and most rapidly prospering city in Ukraine -- home to what was the finest regional airport in Eastern Europe, one of the world's best football stadiums, a state-of-the-art railway terminal, and one of the cleanest, best-maintained cities in the region.
Its elites were running Kyiv, and every time I visited Donetsk as a student, riding the famous trolleybus Route No. 2 through the city, I was amazed by how many new office buildings were appearing, how much money was flowing into the city, and how many international companies were opening their doors there.
Fifteen years ago, to us kids from Donbas, Donetsk felt like the center of the universe because it had everything one could possibly dream of. It was a young city of universities and libraries, where the overwhelming majority of boys and girls from across Donbas went to study, including those from my own small hometown an hour away by bus.
Names like Liverpool or Detroit Rock City may mean nothing to you, but our Ukrainian Donetsk was a city of great rock clubs and unforgettable concerts. We traveled there to see Western bands perform.
We bought rock merchandise at the legendary Right House store near Krytyi Market. Scorpions, Rihanna, and Beyoncé performed at the famous Donbass Arena. Schoolchildren from across Donbas were bused in to watch Shakhtar Donetsk matches. The city even had a famous monument to The Beatles.
It was a city where we sang songs on guitars in its beautifully maintained parks and along the Kalmius embankment before heading out to buy the famous "green Donetsk burgers." Our older friends moved there after graduation, formed rock bands, recorded full albums, and held wedding celebrations in the squares around Donbas Arena. We traveled there to visit the legendary Radio Market in search of films, music, and books.
And then you arrived.
And you turned the wealthiest, most prosperous Ukrainian city into a piece of shit.
You deceived many of its people with sweet promises of Russian oil-fueled prosperity broadcast from television screens, but what you brought instead was war.
You transformed a thriving city into a criminal wasteland ruled by ethnic gangs from Russia, into a kingdom of Stalinist terror straight out of the 1930s, complete with torture chambers in the infamous Izolyatsia prison camp. You turned the magnificent Donetsk Airport into lifeless gray rubble, while the vast stands of Donbas Arena have spent a second decade slowly being reclaimed by weeds instead of hosting Champions League finals and Metallica concerts.
You swept away an entire generation of the city's men through your forced mobilization and threw them against Ukrainian machine guns until there were barely enough people left to keep basic municipal services running. Because of you, prosperous Donetsk became a withered desert without reliable water, because your war destroyed the canal system that carried water from the Siverskyi Donets River into Donbas. For years now, people have lived with chronic water shortages and have been reduced shitting into plastic bags forever.
You dragged Donetsk back like seventy years in time. You turned it into a depressed backwater, devoid of hope and future. Even ten years ago, tens of thousands of people, the most active, the most talented, the most entrepreneurial, fled the city and found refuge in Kyiv and elsewhere in Ukraine. Many of them still remember our Donetsk with tears in their eyes, the Donetsk that existed before the arrival of the "Russian World."
You transformed it into something that even my pro-Russian acquaintances are shocked to see when they return after years of occupation.
It was you who trampled the million roses of our Ukrainian Donetsk into shit beneath the tracks of your tanks and the boots of your death troops, turning them into a foul swamp of death and despair.
And that stain will forever remain on the conscience of fascist Russia, which brings nothing but destruction, decay, and death wherever it goes.
@MarioLeb79 FPV and middle-strike UAVs have all the potential to reshape battlefield dynamics. But their decisive impact may be limited by scaling constraints: production, logistics, & the ability to train enough experienced pilots. This preparation should have started years ago.
@masss11 Love the comments, those people have no clue about modern drone warfare. Kharg is ~40km away from the coast, so most artilery dont reach it. In theory, can be cleared with FPV drones in a 2-3 days, afterwards, 30 people can man it. but still, not sure how it will change anything.
Interesting fact for you.
During the CAS court hearing, IOC lawyers used the fact that I was awarded a state decoration (which took place after my disqualification) as evidence that my helmet had a political character.
At the same time, they did not explain in any way how exactly this was connected.
In the photo, you can see Russian Paralympian receiving awards from Putin. But this time, neither the IOC nor the International Paralympic Committee has any questions or comments.
It seems to me that these organizations would be much better suited to the name “International Committee of Double Standards.”
Twenty years ago, around these very days, we barbarically destroyed with our own hands the last strategic bomber Ukraine inherited after the collapse of the USSR - as part of our obligations to our “partners”, who in return gave their “assurances” to respect peace, Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and the sovereignty of a disarming state.
The same way, earlier, we dismantled and handed over nuclear weapons to Russia (and pledged never to restore our nuclear status), as well as an entire missile arsenal - which later, by Russia’s own hand, flew back into our cities as strikes.
This was not the only factor behind Ukraine’s total disarmament and the collapse of its ability to defend itself as a military power.
But today it is a bitter lesson that must be remembered: what unilateral disarmament “for the sake of peace” ultimately led to.
@pati_marins64 Would appreciate if you can share a bit about how and why there were Cuban security personnel with Maduro? Lack of trust in the local agency? Because it makes no sense from practical standpoint, especially when all the rhetoric was about Venezuela's right of self determination.
@Tatarigami_UA very well said, and for Trump such leaders are the best ones to have and deal with. They dont change in elections, and usually pretty direct about their 'regional' ambitions.
So Erdogan, putin, Xi, etc.. make the best buddies to play golf with.
@narendramodi if this is the level of Indian diplomacy, then no wonder why the country is in such a dire state on both technological and economic level.
My dear American friends, let me give you the clear picture of what’s really going on with Europe now.
For the last 80 years, Western European public opinion was essentially split in two. On one side, about half of us truly hated you: the hard Marxist-lefties, who, living in the Soviet paradise delusion, viewed you as the embodiment of imperialist capitalism; the extreme-right who resented you for defeating them and for kicking them out of power back in 1945.
But, on the other side, mostly in the center (but not only), you had the rest of Western European public opinion that was enormously grateful for what you had done during World War 2 and after: for freeing Europe of nazi-fascist oppression, and even more for protecting us against the Soviet threat.
I was part of the latter group and, boy, did we love you. We loved your pop culture, your consumer products, your innovation, the spirit of freedom, originality, and optimism that came from America. We defended you against our own cynics. And guess what? We were also among the loudest critics of Europe, accusing it of being too complacent, reliant on others, bogged down by bureaucracy, and failing to ensure its own security and freedoms. (Not that your protection didn’t come with massive returns for you in terms of market-access and the trillions of US treasuries that we bought to prop up your ridiculously gigantic public debt...).
Here is the problem now. Over the past few years, and especially since you brought Mr Brain-Rot MAGA Uber-Moron in Command back to the White House, not to mention the whole gang of globally corrupt and Russian-fed tech-broligarcs from Silicon Valley, you’ve managed to really hard piss off even that part of Western public opinion that loved you and respected you.
Yeah, you may think that now you’ve made new friends in Europe. But don’t be fooled by the apparent Euro ultra-right enthusiasm for Trump, from the likes of Orban, Fico, Salvini etc.. They see you as instrumental in tearing down the EU edifice, but deep down, believe me, they hate you more than even the most radical euro-communist. Their ideology is pure "Blood and Soil." They will never forgive you for what you did to them 80 years ago (just as Putin will never forgive you for what you did to the Soviet Union 40 years ago). Plus, as true suprematist-racists, they believe that no society is more culturally and racially corrupt than the USA with all its racial and ethnic diversity. You’re the epitome of rot to them. They are using you to dismantle the European Union. Once that is done, you will find that their nationalism excludes you just as fiercely as it excludes everyone else. And good luck with selling them your junk food and products (you have no freaking idea how protectionist, conservative, and reactionary they are). You’ll discover it soon.
And don’t get me even started with Central-Eastern Europeans. Everyone loved you in Poland, Romania, the Baltics, etc. (even the communists, though they could never say so publicly). They know the cost of occupation. But they also know all too well the price of Western backstabbing (as when they were abandoned to Stalin by Roosevelt & co.). Now that you’ve decided to leave them totally exposed to resurgent Russian genocidal imperialism, you are converting their love into a profound sense of betrayal.
Though, be reassured. No matter how difficult the situation may be for us, Europe is going nowhere. We’ve been here for the last 5000 years, since the first Indo-European nomads started roaming west from the steppe plains (yes, modern day Ukraine…). We survived multiple civilization collapses, plagues, invasions, religious civil wars, the wildest revolutions, an almost continuous state of war, including inflicting on ourselves the most devastating World Wars of all time. There's absolutely no place on earth that has gone through so much history as Europe has (forget the Sumerians and Egyptian pyramids). And yet, we’re still here. Going nowhere. It may take time (and a lot of suffering), but we’ll adapt also to your betrayal.
In the meantime, good luck dealing with the New Imperial Global Multipolar Order that your current leadership is so enthusiastically willing to negotiate with the Putins, Modis, and Xi Jinpings of the world (on the spoils of “weak” Europe). You have no idea. As a society, you are even more fractured, polarized and weaker than Europe is. Putin, Modi, and Xi Jinping are just going to eat you up for breakfast.
Oh, yeah. In the darkest moments, don’t come whining over the Atlantic. No matter what, no one trusts you anymore here. We may still help you, but it won't come free ad it will require a lot of forgiveness. After all, that’s the fate reserved to all traitors.
@pati_marins64 Unfortunately, this new world order would lead to one thing, and one thing only. Mass adoption of nuclear by any country that can afford/master this technology, it could be the only real option to fend off the 'big boys'. For Ukraine of Poland, it could be a matter of months.
@KShevchenkoReal I really feel a lot of people do not understand the repercussions of "de-globalisation" .. and how everyone will eventually be worse off.
US-first, EU-first, would eventually lead to lower life standards in those countries, but no lo less so for the global south.

I extend my sincere and heartfelt gratitude for your support for the long-awaited and just decision on the Reparations Loan, a step grounded in a simple truth: Russia must pay for the destruction it has caused and the crimes it continues to commit.
Your unity strengthens the defense of our continent, upholds accountability, and affirms that Europe does not look away in the face of aggression. Together, we move closer to justice.
