The Chief, our officers and I were actively investigating public corruption and human trafficking in our town. That included going after some of the city commissioners. We also ran a successful undercover sting targeting child predators.
Instead of supporting the investigation, those same commissioners got Phil Williams at NewsChannel 5 to come after us. He ran a smear campaign calling us conspiracy theorists and attacked our work.
That pressure led the TBI to raid our department, seize our evidence, and shut down our investigations.
If they hadn’t interfered, we could have stopped more of these crimes sooner. We sued Phil Williams, NewsChannel 5, and will be suing TBI for exactly this.
