Do international treaties work? Which ones? Which treaty design choices make a difference?
Grateful to have been part of the @gstrategylab team that tackled these big questions. Check out our work, newly published in @PNASNews ➡️ https://t.co/7dsVMmOMWV. #LegalEpidemiology
Today @PNASNews published one of the most important studies I've conducted. We asked: do international treaties produce the effects their negotiators intended? The short answer is "no".
Here I will try to summarize almost 10 years of work in 10 tweets.🧵 https://t.co/4eGQ2P24Rj
Our study of migrant agricultural workers' deaths in Ontario, published yesterday
https://t.co/NF0jxxofvh
confirms the need for rigorous and enforceable national housing standards, proactive enforcement, language concordant care and anti-reprisal mechanisms to prevent deaths. 1/4
As a Canadian: I won’t for one second think that what’s happening in the United States with #RoeVsWade can’t happen here…We must be vigilant. Take nothing for granted. Act like our basic human rights depend on it…Because they do.

I'll talk about our research reviewing migrant ag. workers' deaths in 2020 & 2021 with @chrisdelatorre We want outreach, supports to bridge well-known barriers; enforcement & oversight to address poor conditions; & status for these individuals @CBCAfternoonDr@maxwelltran 1/2
We have already seen more deaths of migrant agricultural workers early on in 2022. These are preventable deaths: let's work together and stop failing the workers who help put food on our tables.
Each year, over 50,000 migrant agricultural workers arrive in Canada, with almost half working in Ontario. They work in farms and greenhouses, putting food on our tables. They are the backbone of our food supply chain.
Today, @susana_caxaj, along with co-investigators @ProfJMcLaughlin@Steph_Mayell@shailrawalMD release the findings of their study into coroner's files on migrant agricultural worker's deaths in Ontario. https://t.co/k97paTlh1X
