Duffers said the ending is for interpretation.
You can accept they are shitty writers and the season is full of holes they cant explain but heroes win.

Or the theory of fake ending is real which explains the holes. So it closes the story with villain winning.

@jake_theviking Well, the way i see it they wasted opportunity and made some bad blood with the fans. At least now we know there are some real creatives in the fan base that were able to find explanation for the plotholes that the writers themselves cant explain.
