Today, we filed bills to reform the party-list system and restore genuine representation in Congress. Senate Bill No. 1656 was filed by Akbayan Sen. Risa Hontiveros, while I, together with my fellow Akbayan Reps. Perci Cendaña and Dadah Ismula, and Dinagat Islands Rep. Kaka Bag-ao, filed House Bill No. 7074.

Sa ilalim ng mga panukalang ito, bawal sa party-list system ang mga political dynasty at ang mga may interes sa kontrata ng gobyerno.

Ipinagbabawal din ang pagpaparehistro ng mga party-list gamit ang pangalan ng TV o radio program, government assistance program, o ng mga public official, celebrity, at iba pang public figure.

Panahon na para wakasan ang pang-aabuso sa party-list system. Let us restore it to its original purpose and give more power to long-marginalized parties, organizations, and sectors.
