Trauma Pts:
Love to wait for you to turn your back on them so that they can reach up & take a bite out of your ass.
Elderly Trauma Pts:
Love to aspirate.
@rbarbosa91@topknife@karimbrohi@docmartin22 @trasmussen_md Similar situation for rib fxr fixation. Enthusiasm overtook reason/experience/critical thinking. I never envisioned rib fxr repair would become so overused. It's sad to see enthusiasts and device companies misapply something good.
@peter_masiakos Nope. You'll do financial harm to the common man in those locations & reinforce conservative demagoguery. Demagogues love to showcase the the knee jerk reactions of educated liberals to their prejudices. It's their fuel.
@JJheart_doc @Caulimovirus Most people, even highly educated RNs & docs, are really not critical thinkers. They are trained to 'get the job done' & get on to the next patient.
@bulgercot@topknife@MichaelCrippsMD @mademoya Another society? Seems like all you guys do is travel around the country attending meetings! When do you take care of patients or hang with family?
People that say this miss the value that an Acute Care Service can/SHOULD bring to patients/hospitals and elective surgeons. The downstream revenue of a HPB surgeon who doesnโt have to do EGS is significant AND patients benefit from timely care. Win-win!
Cognitive load in OR matters - @TaraCohenPhD at #AHPBA2023: each time a surgeon interacts w flow disruptions ๐๐ป error spaces. Disruptions come from systemic organization & influenced by bias. Solutions? Build resilience in system/team, not only individuals.
PS I'm trying to help our ED providers/nurses who are having a hard time taking Priority 2 activations seriously - any helpful thoughts would be welcomed

2 Assume the worst & disprove it
3 The CT scan knows more than you
4 Injured people ambulate at the scene
5 Trying to save money does not
6 Trauma doesn't care about you
