Benthic macroinvertebrates (the bugs that we are interested in because they are widespread & both sensitive & tolerant, depending on the bug) are collected using kicknets! These are wide, rectangular nets that are deployed into watersheds. Cool beans!

Mayflies belong the order of insect known as ephemeroptera. The name is drawn from the Greek word "ephēmeros," meaning "lasting only a day," which is a nod to the short adult lifespan of mayflies. The modern word "ephemeral" is from the same root. #Biology
