If you wonder what the world thinks about Mississippi’s decision to eliminate our income tax, here is a thought from the Trump-endorsed Republican candidate for Governor in Ohio:
“The overwhelming majority of replies…were supportive of Reeves’ call for elimination” of the income tax in Mississippi.
Not surprising-
Working people of this state should be able to keep more of what they EARN!!
Almost a year ago, Mississippi led the way to the greatest conservative win in a generation – the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
While I’m extremely proud of the role that Mississippi played in this monumental victory, winning a court case was never our true objective. Rather, it was building a culture of life throughout our state and throughout our nation.
Today in Mississippi, we are leading the way in advancing support for moms and babies.
The legislation I signed today is further proof that when it comes to protecting life, Mississippi isn’t just talking the talk - we’re walking the walk.
I signed House Bill 510 which establishes a foster parents bill of rights. The legislation increases transparency for foster parents, expands communication opportunities with professionals, and makes the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services personnel more readily available for foster parents.
Additionally, it helps ensure that the educational needs of foster children are being met and provides access to available resources for parents.
I signed House Bill 1671 which expands the tax credit for pregnancy resource centers across the state from $3.5 million to $10 million. This is a remarkable increase that will encourage private donations for the benefit of those who are helping women with limited resources navigate motherhood.
I signed Senate Bill 2696 which creates an income tax credit for qualified adoption expenses. The program will cover a maximum of $10,000 worth of adoption expenses for those who adopt a child from Mississippi and $5,000 of expenses for children outside of Mississippi.
The adoption process is far too expensive, and Mississippi has many children seeking loving forever homes. This legislation is an important step forward in helping to lower the barriers to adoption and unite children with the permanent families that they deserve.
I signed House Bill 1149 which established the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services as its own agency separate from MDHS. This separation will give it the ability to draw down more federal funds to support Mississippi families.
I signed House Bill 1625 which gives the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services the largest budget in its history. This equips the agency with the resources needed to effectively carry out its mission and better support Mississippi children.
I signed House Bill 1318 which increases the opportunities available for parents to choose adoption by authorizing safe haven baby boxes across our state. The legislation increases the age that children can be dropped off at these boxes, authorizes safety devices to be sponsored by emergency medical service providers, and authorizes any city or county to sponsor a baby safety device.
And I signed Senate Bill 2384 which establishes the Mississippi Task Force on Foster Care and Adoption. The task force will study Mississippi’s laws regarding foster care, adoption, and other related areas and make recommendations for improvement to the legislature.
We’re continuing to deliver on our promise to mothers and babies – to get them the quality care they deserve. Mississippi will always protect life. Our state will continue to be a beacon on the hill, a symbol of hope for the country, and a model for the nation.
As I’ve said before, Mississippi has moved to the next phase in our pursuit to build a culture of life. That phase… is the New Pro-Life Agenda.
Now, this will not be easy, and it will not be free, but it is the right thing to do, and Mississippi is committed to doing it. I’m confident that together, we’re going to continue to get the job done and deliver the support Mississippi mothers and babies deserve.
Mississippi will be relentless in its commitment to life. We will be relentless in our support of mothers and children. And we will be relentless in our efforts to advance the New Pro-life Agenda.
School is out for the summer, but our dedicated educators are still hard at work! Thanks to these teachers and to curriculum specialist Susan Boyd and assistant curriculum coordinator Dr. Allison Ruhl for their curriculum work for the upcoming school year! #wearepearl

Freezing rain has started to fall here in the city. Public works has salted the bridges but we encourage you to stay off the roads if at all possible.
