JUST SAY GOODBYE!
You are going about your day when you receive an unexpected call from your “bank” claiming there is suspected fraud on your account.
Here’s what not to do, says the SA Fraud Protection Service (SAFPS):
Do not press any buttons on your phone, share one-time-pins, or respond to pop-ups.
Just say goodbye and end the call.
Then: call your actual bank using the number on the back of your bank card to check that all is okay with your account.
One more thing: Report the call to Yima (a product of the SAFPS) on https://t.co/zf3YkxscEr or via the hotline on 083 123 7226. 🙏
Minister Parks Tau exposes 90 illegal online gambling websites operating in South Africa
Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau has revealed that approximately 90 online gambling websites are operating illegally in South Africa, flouting regulations set by the National Gambling Board (NGB).
The announcement, made during a recent parliamentary briefing, underscores growing concerns over unregulated digital gambling platforms exploiting South African consumers.
Minister Tau highlighted that these websites, many hosted offshore, offer unauthorized betting services, bypassing the country’s strict gambling laws.
This illegal activity deprives the fiscus of significant tax revenue and exposes users to risks such as fraud, money laundering, and inadequate consumer protections. “These operators undermine our regulatory framework and pose serious risks to vulnerable citizens,” Tau stated.
The NGB, in collaboration with law enforcement and internet service providers, has intensified efforts to shut down these platforms, with 20 sites already blocked in 2025.
Tau noted that the Financial Intelligence Centre is also investigating potential links to illicit financial flows.
The crackdown follows a surge in online gambling, fueled by widespread internet access and smartphone penetration, with illegal operators luring users through aggressive marketing and unchecked betting options.
The minister urged the public to verify the legitimacy of gambling platforms via the NGB’s website, https://t.co/uwmXaHaPwY, and report suspicious sites.
Legal gambling contributes over R3 billion annually to South Africa’s economy, but illegal operations threaten this revenue stream and public safety.
Tau emphasized plans to strengthen legislation and enhance cross-border cooperation to tackle the issue, with further updates expected by year-end.

I urge to listen to this, especially if you’re struggling with gambling. Trevor and I spoke about online sports betting. Some of you know I lost my brother to suicide because of his addiction to it. After hearing that, Trevor stopped accepting betting companies as advertisers on his podcast. In this clip, he and Ryan (who’s off screen) make some very sharp points about how these companies operate and the sneaky, manipulative tricks they use to get people to spend all their money. See the whole podcast on Spotify or YouTube, What Now? With Trevor Noah.
(Can’t believe I had to pay Elon Musk in order to post a longer video).
Everyone knows Floyd Mayweather.
But few know about the brutal training camps that made him untouchable in the ring.
They were so intense, he retired undefeated at 50-0.
Here are 9 drills that made Mayweather the most precise counter-puncher in boxing history:
