@IanISSawesome@dvorstone We don’t all put forth the effort, or have the right circumstances, to reach our full potential either. Some do much with little. Some do little with much. In either case time spent diminishing others is time that would be better spent improving ourselves.
@chukisamok@dvorstone It couldn’t be done. Just as you couldn’t build one with a handful of notable men alone. Unless they had the ability to animate clay golems as fellow citizens. Every civilization has been built by men and women together.
@IanISSawesome@dvorstone Einstein, Julius Caesar, and Mozart weren’t the norm either but they were here and impacted the world to the point many still know their names. As many do the names of the women I listed. No demographic is a monolith and we all have potential.
@dvorstone The navy didn’t buy it but they did use it during the Cuban missile crisis a few years after her and Antheil’s patent expired - also look into her influence on the design of modern aircraft.
Hypatia improved the design of the astrolabe. She taught people to build and use them.
@TheGraniteDad@dvorstone My response was specifically to the statement “I wish there was a women [sic] Einstein and Mozart or Caesar. There isn't.” Those men are also anecdotal exceptions to the average man. We all have potential and value.
@EggerDC I have a plastic tote labeled “ book hospital”. I collect the damaged books in it then repair them all in one go every few weeks or so. Then it’s like they get a haul of new books all over again. Exciting stuff.
@Loudlobster578 Y’all all these places still exist with the exception of McDonald’s play places. Google Maps yourself to the nearest Rainforest Cafe and go if you miss it! make a weekend out of it if it’s far.
@ChadSpecialist I spent time reading on my phone while breastfeeding, nap trapped, or pacing with the baby. I play music or white noise on YouTube for the kids. The phone is up on a shelf but the screen is on. I’ll watch a video while washing dishes. I grocery shop on there too. It adds up.
@CuriousBunnie12 I think the idea is more that we developed as a species living in nomadic groups and villages that depended on one another. Thousands of years passed and now families and parents have become isolated units in seperate homes but our biology hasn’t changed.
@megha_lilly I fondly remember my washing machine holding my newborns so I could take 30 minute sanity naps, the dishwasher giving me breastfeeding guidance because it had done it before, and the water faucet tending to my toddler when he and my then newborn were crying at the same time.
@thecavemommy I’ve noticed when I only run the 1 hour cycle for a few runs in a row the dishwasher starts to smell funky. That may just be my dishwasher though.
@ThymeToBeBorn@gothhauswife They did at first but now they’ll stand there and watch me for a minute or two while I’m cooking and then wander off. I let them in with me a lot of the time..I honestly mainly use it while the oven or kettle is hot and I’m not in there so they can’t wander in unsupervised.
@wrowclif@zulways@TXtater95 It’s the clay soils. They expand and contract by 15% or more with the rainy and dry seasons. This constant expansion and contraction would put a lot of pressure on basement walls. Foundation problems are common here because of this even without a basement.
