Danielle Smith spent years feeding separatist rhetoric inside the UCP nurturing anti-Ottawa anger to boost her own political brand. Now that Mark Carney and Smith are trying to push through a new pipeline deal, she’s facing backlash from within her own party.

Why?
Because the very anti-Canada sentiment she planted has grown into a monster she can’t control. The UCP base she radicalized doesn’t suddenly become reasonable just because she now needs cooperation with Ottawa.

Smith created this division.
She encouraged the hostility.
She built a party culture that rejects anything linked to Canada and now even her own members refuse to listen to her.

This is the price of political games: when you sow hate, you eventually lose control of it.
