GTOAA Nationals Thriving in Loveland: Yesterday’s Scenic Cruises, Today’s Historic Tours & Tomorrow’s Festivities

The 47th GTOAA National Convention is creating lasting memories in Loveland, Colorado, as classic Pontiac GTOs and dedicated enthusiasts enjoy a perfect blend of automotive excellence and Rocky Mountain scenery.

Yesterday’s highlight saw participants embark on exhilarating scenic driving cruises through the stunning Poudre Canyon to the Mishawaka Amphitheatre for lunch, followed by an evening drive-in experience at the Holiday Twin Movie Theater. Conditions were sunny with a high of 92°F and a chance of thunderstorms that added dramatic character without disrupting the day’s energy.

Today’s program centers on the highly anticipated private historic tours of the iconic Stanley Hotel and Estes Park, including themed options, along with a special kids’ model car building activity. Weather today features partly sunny skies with a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon (high 85°F, low 60°F). Attendees should remain mindful of possible brief storms while exploring the area’s rich history and natural beauty.

Tomorrow, Friday, July 10, promises mostly sunny conditions (high near 89°F) as the group enjoys a lively pub crawl through Loveland and Fort Collins before gathering for the popular indoor parking-lot party featuring live music, a cash bar, and excellent food.

The Atlantic Is Hitting Snooze While the Pacific Parties: What a Super El Niño Means for 2026

By early July, the Atlantic hurricane season has been unusually quiet — with only one named storm so far: Tropical Storm Arthur, which brought flooding to parts of Texas in June.

The main reason? A super El Niño is rapidly strengthening and is expected to peak during the heart of the season. This pattern increases wind shear across the Atlantic — essentially acting like an atmospheric blender that disrupts developing storms before they can organize.

Colorado State University just updated its forecast, calling for a well-below-average Atlantic season:
9 named storms, 4 hurricanes, and just 1 major hurricane.
That’s down from the long-term average of 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes. The odds of a major hurricane making landfall anywhere along the U.S. coast have dropped to 17% (compared to the historical average of 43%).

A strong analog year is 2015, another powerful El Niño season that produced a similarly quiet Atlantic (11 named storms, 4 hurricanes, 2 majors) while the Eastern Pacific went into overdrive.
