Statement by Intern Doctors of J&K
If their demand for a stipend hike is not fulfilled within the assured timeline they will be left with no option but to begin an indefinite hunger strike from October 10
We remain hopeful that the government will honour its commitment
@CM_JnK
Respected Health Minister @sakinaitoo Ji yesterday you told the intern doctors’ delegation to wait for one month
Why are you not stating the same thing publicly ?
The interns and the people of J&K deserve transparency and clarity
Very disappointing
We are pleased to announce the new AIMSA Jammu & Kashmir Team
Wishing the entire team the very best as they take on their responsibilities and work towards the welfare and rights of medical students, interns and doctors across J&K.

The Government has asked for 1 month's time to address the stipend hike demand
Our intern doctors have decided to continue their peaceful protest until a written Government Order confirming the stipend hike is issued
#WATCH | Doda, Jammu and Kashmir: MBBS interns at Government Medical College (GMC), Doda, held a candlelight march on the fourth day of their protest, demanding an increase in their monthly stipend.
OPEN LETTER TO THE HON’BLE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF JAMMU & KASHMIR @manojsinha_
Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha Ji,
I most respectfully seek your personal intervention in the ongoing protest by intern doctors across Jammu & Kashmir over their stipend.
These young doctors have spent several years pursuing their medical education and are now serving patients in our hospitals as interns. They are presently receiving a stipend of approximately Rs. 10,000 per month, while they are seeking a revision to Rs. 30,000 per month, which they believe would be a fairer and more dignified compensation for the responsibilities they undertake.
The difference between the present stipend and the amount being sought deserves to be considered sympathetically, particularly when these young doctors are working in hospitals and contributing directly to the healthcare system.
I humbly request your good office to kindly invite representatives of the protesting interns for a direct dialogue and examine their demand on its merits. If there are administrative or financial constraints, I am confident that, under your personal intervention, a constructive and time-bound solution can be worked out.
At a time when our young people are already facing considerable challenges, resolving this issue through dialogue would send a positive message that the administration is sensitive to their concerns and values their contribution.
Hon’ble LG Sahib, this is not merely a question of an amount; it is also about recognising the dignity, effort and responsibility of young doctors who are serving the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
I sincerely hope that you will kindly intervene and facilitate an early, fair and dignified resolution of their grievance.
With utmost respect and hope,
Adv. Deepika Pushkar Nath
Rs. 800 a day for a labourer. Rs. 400 a day for a doctor with a higher medical degree.
This is Jammu & Kashmir in 2026.
Years of medical education, sleepless nights, emergencies and saving lives and the government values a doctor at half the daily wage of a labourer.
Shameful. Pathetic. Unacceptable.
Is this what good governance looks like?
@k9f2se If this process has been going on since 2023/2025, calling it “under process” today without giving a deadline is not an answer.
How many more years does an “under process” file need? Interns have been waiting long enough. We deserve action, not another assurance.

Standing firmly with the Intern Doctors of GMC Srinagar in their demand for a ₹30,000 monthly stipend.
₹12,300 for doctors working long hours across wards, emergencies, OTs and ICUs is simply inadequate. Their demand is about dignity, fairness and recognition.
I urge Hon’ble LG Manoj Sinha Ji @manojsinha_ and Hon’ble CM Omar Abdullah Ji @OmarAbdullah to kindly consider their genuine demand and ensure an early resolution.

#WATCH: MBBS interns threaten indefinite strike, demand fair compensation
#MBBS interns are an essential part of our healthcare system. They work long hours, attend to patients, assist in emergencies, perform night duties and shoulder responsibilities that directly contribute to patient care—yet receive just ₹12,300 a month.
Is ₹12,300 enough compensation for the responsibility, workload and hours they put in during their internship?
Watch the video as MBBS interns raise their concerns and warn of an indefinite strike, demanding fair compensation for their work.
