“You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant.” - Harlan Ellison #ADHDAwareness#ADD#ADHD
Growing up with undiagnosed ADHD I became an expert at hiding my struggles and learning ways of 'making it on my own'. When I was diagnosed at 32 it took me 18 months of depression before I finally asked for help.
I learned a valuable lesson:
It's OK to ask for help!
Male suicide rates are so high. It breaks my heart that men feel they can’t open up because of stigma.
MENS MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS.
Men, open up. It’ll be okay.
@HowtoADHD 1. Bedtime reminder on my phone (1 hour before bedtime)
2. Turn off all screens (TV, phone, computer)
3. Brush teeth, get ready for bed
4. Read a book in the living room until I can barely keep my eyes open
5. Go straight to bed
But even that doesn't always work.
My 15 yr old daughter Mia Robinson is missing once more and I’m desperate to find her. She is believed to be in the London area. Please, please RT this post. If she is seen or you know her whereabouts please call Lewisham police on 101. Thank you so much for your support xxx
Lately I've been struggling a lot with the feeling called LOVE.
I don't think I can honestly say that I feel loved, even though I have a wife and family who say they love me. Or that I love anyone, like the concept is lost on me.
It feels awful now that I'm aware of this...
@HowtoADHD & I agree: "Take Your Pills"@netflix documentary could have/should have focused on #ADHD medication facts. Instead, it furthered the fear & suspicion surrounding meds. A trained #ADHD professional will NOT ALLOW you to remain on something harmful - nor should YOU! https://t.co/SI24WabuaM
For the record: "Stimulant medications are not considered habit-forming in the doses used to treat ADHD, and there is no evidence that their use leads to substance abuse." https://t.co/o1mILLftoD #endthestigma#ITakeMyPillsBecause#TakeYourPills@Netflix
@HowtoADHD#ITakeMyPillsBecause I want to lift the fog. Adderall has ZERO effect on me. When you have ADHD, meds do not get you high or offer an unfair advantage. ADHD is not an excuse. ADHD is real & Adderall is just ONE option that MAY help with SOME symptoms.
@johanna_etc@HowtoADHD @NachoPKB Totally agree! I was diagnosed at 32 and have just started what seems to be a very long treatment with a psychologist trying to realise that maybe I'm not such a terrible failure and a mess of a person I've always believed I am. Hoping there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
#ITakeMyPillsBecause the only "edge" or "rush" it gives me is feeling like I'm finally at the same cognitive level as those without ADHD. NO enhanced vision. NO Limitless type abilities. Just the ability to remember what you said 7 seconds later.
#ITakeMyPillsBecause I spent 29 years blaming myself for careless mistakes, losing jobs, accidents, clutter, & not being able to focus on a conversation with people I care about. I have a difficult time staying on task at a desk & getting up in the morning. Meds are a life raft.
@aliklay@takeyourpills@netflix Promoting this as some feminist accomplishment while discrediting the real suffering of the thousands of women who legitimately struggle with #ADHD is really distasteful.
How does it feel to add to the stigma so many people have to overcome every day ?
As a feminist with #ADHD, I’m heartbroken that @takeyourpills, a film made by women, has done so much to further stigmatise my condition.
#ITakeMyPillsBecause I need them to balance my neurotransmitters, so I can manage the day without overwhelm, not for competitive advantage. https://t.co/5tlhKqDq9F
@aliklay@takeyourpills@netflix I wonder if people understand that ADHD meds are like insulin to a type I diabetic. If you truly are diagnosed with ADHD, many times it's for life. #ITakeMyPillsBecause - I'm 65 & I've recognized how ADHD has affected me but not anymore. @HowtoADHD
I have lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament, calling out @netflix 's imbalanced @takeyourpills doc. We need better understanding of ADHD & role of medication in its treatment.
I hope this means less stigma when people explain #ITakeMyPillsBecause

Brains, keep it up! People are listening :) #ITakeMyPillsBecause I no longer allow people who don’t understand my ADHD, my individual brain or the research-based benefits and risks of the available treatments, to influence my decision. My brain deserves better. #MyBrainMyChoice https://t.co/u00LwjB12G
