@LeShuttle thank you for the ticket voucher and very helpful customer service at what must be a crazy busy time!! Just got through after only 10min wait
@Britestoan@KrishanVik@DeanRGrundy@AyoCaesar I am horrified by austerity, but it is actually the schemes and additional support staff cuts that have made more of a difference. You make far too many assumptions about my opinions and about education to make this worth discussing with you further
@Britestoan@KrishanVik@DeanRGrundy@AyoCaesar This is my last response because you clearly have a chip on your shoulder. You have no right to bash hardworking schools you arent willing to understand. You're not the only one that went to state school. They do have worse facilities, but that is far from what makes a gd school
@Britestoan@KrishanVik@DeanRGrundy@AyoCaesar As I said originally this grades fiasco is not about rich and poor, state vs. Private it's about a cohort of young people who will judged on the grades that many will see as they didn't earn and that lots will feed hard done by. The system didnt work and it didnt work for many.
@Britestoan@KrishanVik@DeanRGrundy@AyoCaesar I don't think the private system works, I just happen to work in a private school because I enjoy teaching and my schools gives me the opportunity to teach only econ with less bureaucracy and pressure. And please dont bash state schools in to "less good" than private schools.
@Britestoan@KrishanVik@DeanRGrundy@AyoCaesar That's far too generic. It's about opportunities and support inside and out of school (whether from home or school) which has been sucked out of the state system with year on year cuts & changes
@Britestoan@DeanRGrundy@KrishanVik@AyoCaesar And finally. Ever heard of scholarships, parents remortgaging or working 2 jobs. I'm not saying these are "poor kids" but the assumption that privately educated kids were all born into wealthy, powerful families is false. Life isnt as black and white as you like to think
@Britestoan@DeanRGrundy@KrishanVik@AyoCaesar What you havent addressed is my point that not all private schools benefitted and in turn not all kids benefitted. The was a significant difference between exam boards, subjects etc. I dont see how you can keep banging your drum, when I am saying this is untrue of all schools.
@Britestoan@DeanRGrundy@KrishanVik@AyoCaesar I'm not saying any student deserves more than what they worked for. Very few "benefitted" from this and to assume they did is inaccurate and unfair on all those kids that didnt.
@Britestoan@DeanRGrundy@KrishanVik@AyoCaesar And if you read my comment, I said it's about the kids. Too many kids, who worked damn hard regardless of their background, lost out significantly. 1/3rd of my "rich kids" who arent actually that, lost out on grades I, as a professional, judged they could achieve. Is that fair?
@Britestoan@KrishanVik@DeanRGrundy@AyoCaesar Evidence. I'm a teacher who happens to work in a private school where our grades across the school were down on last year and mine, as an Economics department, were the worst since the new a level was introduced. The kids deserved more
@DeanRGrundy@KrishanVik@Britestoan@AyoCaesar This happened in private school and "good postcodes" too. Kids that worked incredibly hard saw their grades drop 1,2,3 grades too. The algorithm failed. Lots of kids have been screwed over regardless of background. You need to think about individuals rather than make it a crusade
@scott_walton @AyoCaesar The "rich kids", which not all privately educated kids are, and who have worked hard have also been harshly dealt grades this year. I'm not saying state educated kids havent too - I just know that it's not as simple as a rich/poor/postcode advantage as the media is suggesting.
@British_Airways I look forward to hearing from them. However, a goodwill gesture of getting my husband on the next available flight with seats would have been much better/appropriate etc.
