Edmonton power bills are set to increase after city council approved a hike to the municipal electricity franchise fee.

The fee charged to EPCOR will increase from 17.65% to 20%, the maximum allowed under Alberta regulations. The change is expected to generate an additional $14.8 million in annual revenue for the City.

The higher fee takes effect Jan. 1, 2027.

I do. It's actually a really simple answer.

Kids can understand it. I'll tell you the story now so you can be ready when you finally have grandkids, Mario Awful.

For decades, Israelis tried to work with the Gazans, believing the impossible: that people who have declared that they want nothing more than to have Israel destroyed and Jews killed might be able to be persuaded to be friends by giving them land, money, resources, opportunities, and an infinite amount of patience.

During those decades, huge amounts of humanitarian aid was sent to the Gaza Strip, which they used to militarize and to spend many years planning a savage surprise attack against the people helping them. Almost everyone in the world took up their cause, even many Israelis who lived right next door, even though the Gazans were taking advantage of all that help.

They were offered everything but wouldn't accept it because all they wanted was Israel to be destroyed and Jews to be driven out or, preferably, dead. They were so fixated on that goal that nothing else mattered, and nothing else was good enough. They even used water pipes to build rockets and dug terror tunnels under their city and deep into Israeli territory to prepare for a surprise war.

On an important Jewish holiday and their sabbath, the Gazans sprung their surprise attack. That was October 7, 2023. They launched over a thousand rockets at 6:30 am. The Israelis heard the sirens and knew they only had seconds to hide in their shelters from these attacks. By the way, every Israeli house has a bomb shelter in it because these kinds of attacks are so frequent. Also, every Israeli adult and child, little boys and little girls, knows from as soon as they can walk that when the sirens sound to go to the shelter because it is so important and so common.

As the Israelis went, exhausted and sleepy, to their shelters to hide from the rocket attack, the Gazans sent a large armed force across the fence into Israel to do the most heinous things to the Israelis that you can imagine. Over a thousand were murdered. Things so horrible you cannot describe them to children happened everywhere. The Gazans celebrated and filmed themselves and put it on the internet, bragging and boasting about unimaginable horrors and murders. They dragged Israelis, including women, children, and babies and dead bodies, into their terror city and terror tunnels and started abusing and killing them slowly, using them and their corpses as collateral against the Israeli people and military. This lasted for over two years, with the last hostage's remains returned at the end of January 2026 after being taken in October 2023.

The scale and nature of this attack is so horrific that it cannot be described politely, but its true evil wasn't just in the barbarity of its forces, which did unspeakable things to completely innocent men, women, and children everywhere they went, including many who openly supported them for years, but in how they took advantage of the trust and help they were given to do it.

Gazans had spent years exploiting the goodwill of Israelis in the Gaza Envelope to gather intelligence, working as gardeners, housekeepers, taxi drivers, etc., to gather detailed intelligence of the neighborhoods and homes they would systematically attack starting on October 7. So many Israelis were betrayed at their trust and goodwill toward the Gazans, and by it. While they hid from those rockets in their shelters, Hamas terrorists systematically went through the carefully mapped streets of their neighborhoods, broke into houses, and shot them dead through the doors of their shelters, or crashed in through the walls from the outside using their own farming equipment to do it. Hamas terrorists knew the Israelis would be hiding from the rockets and knew where they'd be hiding, and they murdered them while they hid, deliberately, planned out in advance and for years.

These people weren't just Israelis or Jews. They were innocents. In fact, as far as it goes, many of them were the greatest champions for the Gazans in Israel. Didn't matter. They were Israelis. They were Jews. They had to die in the most horrible ways you can think of. They had to be desecrated. They had to be taken hostage. It all had to be celebrated on video streamed live onto the internet to excite their radical friends around the region and the world. The horror is actually incomprehensible.

Had this happened to Americans in the United States from one of its neighbors, the response Americans would have demanded cannot actually be comprehended. I stand in awe at how restrained and cautious and decent and good the Israelis have been, and it is to my slight embarrassment knowing that our own people, our own forces, wouldn't have managed a fraction of that decency, however much we would match the unparalleled effectiveness of these operations. That is, Mario Awful, I don't f*cking want to hear it, and neither do your grandkids. Respect them enough not to soil their minds with these lies, which are so evil that Hell itself would be slightly embarrassed to spread them.

So, when Israel realized what had happened to them, what was still happening to them, how their trust, support, and patience had been taken advantage of in the nastiest and cruelest way human beings can possibly imagine, for zero good reasons and only unbelievably evil ones, they set out to make sure it would never happen again. They started a war of rescue and to end the military capacities of the Gazans, who were and still are governed by a radical terrorist group that even has in their charter that they want every Israeli driven out and every Jew that can be killed dead.

Israel waged a patient war with the highest accuracy rate of any in the entire history of urban warfare, taking great pains and many casualties to spare innocent life, even when that innocent life openly supports the terror regime that governs them and wants them dead. The Gazans, however, had spent decades turning their entire city into a hidden military fortress, hiding weapons, entrances to terror tunnels, command centers, and every conceivable military target within civilian neighborhoods, including even homes, schools, hospitals, and houses of worship. Israel did what it had to do as carefully as it could be done. The devastation you see is the result of the evil of Hamas and the Gazans who support it having spent decades organizing their city to become a vast, sprawling military installation.

The Gazans and their terrorist leaders took this organizational approach specifically for two reasons. One was to deter Israel from ever attacking or disabling their military installations at all. Even when the devastation seen here, that remained the case. Israel took great pains to minimize, including casualties, including complicated legal approvals, including warning both civilians and combatants in Gaza of incoming attacks against the installations, trying to save all innocent (and a lot of not-so-innocent) life. Another was to produce this propaganda, which Mario Awful, after having his account built to giant size by @elonmusk himself, spreads and promotes with foolish emotion-driven emojis and devastating lies of omission of these facts.

Even as Israel dismantled the entire military capacity of Gaza bit by bit (which is what you see in the video here), they sent aid: more food, medicine, and other supplies than have ever been sent to a population controlled by an enemy military in the history of warfare, period. The terrorist leaders leveraged every bit of it against them, stealing it and starving their own people, creating propaganda campaigns about genocide and forced starvation, and even building more rockets out of raw materials including water pipes, which they then fired at Israel.

Bit by bit, Israel dismantled as much of their military apparatus as they could and rescued or recovered all of their hostages, including among them Americans. The result is what you see. The result you see below is the most painstakingly moderate response a decent human being of even the slightest comprehension could possibly imagine, and yet that's what the Israelis have accomplished in Gaza.

And they accomplished it while the world hated them for it, scrutinized everything not just for any legitimate breaches of perfection but for a litany of illegitimate accusations of things so voluminous that they could not even be recorded, except that they were in the relentless propaganda of social media, the global enemy propaganda channels, and even the mainstream press, almost all amplified and repeated by even allegedly good, decent conservatives who found these lies a perfect reason either to reveal their underlying but hidden hatred for Jews or to turn to that evil on false pretenses you are promoting, even now, even today.

So when you sit down to tell your grandkids how humanity allowed Gaza to happen, tell them the real story.

Humanity allowed Gaza to become a terrorist militarized city openly dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the murder and desecration of Jews and Jewish bodies by believing in some asinine humanitarian concept that defies all logic. It happened by creating a global political situation that, for reasons of Communist political correctness and soft-hearted and softer-headed compassion, refused to believe the simple reality of the situation. It happened because this delusion and misplaced trust persisted for decades while Hamas and its supporters turned Gaza into a terrorist military outpost that would simply have to be destroyed sooner or later, and then they pulled that trigger on themselves in the most obvious way possible on October 7, 2023, which stands as one of the darkest days of the last century.

Humanity allowed Gaza to happen because it wouldn't take Hamas at its word. Humanity allowed Gaza to happen because it lied to itself for decades about the nature of the Islamic currents that motivate Hamas and "Palestinianism" more broadly. Humanity allowed Gaza to happen because it wouldn't address a problem correctly from the beginning, not least because it was terrified of being called racist and refused, nobly but stupidly, that human beings could be led by ideology and religion to the depths of evil and depravity that had captured the Gazans.

Humanity allowed Gaza to happen, that is, because it refused to take Gazans at their word.

Israel, starting in late 2023, finally woke up in the worst way possible to the need to STOP LETTING GAZA HAPPEN, the result of which your video depicts and the truth and moral of which you, like a demon, invert.

It is with great concern for some of my fellow countrymen, inching precariously toward the edge of utter lunacy, that I write this post.

Prime Minister Mark Carney this week, in an interview with the New York Times, went on record saying it would be “irresponsible” not to plan for the possible contingency of a military invasion of Canada by the United States. Unfortunately, Mr. Carney didn’t misspeak or fall victim to a cherry-picked quote taken out of context. His concern was later reiterated by Defence Minister David McGuinty and Artificial Intelligence Minister Evan Soloman.

We all know that Donald Trump has a colourful history of spouting off some truly outrageous whoppers from time to time, but even he has never disseminated something as fatuous, dangerous or dishonest as this. And while he seldom backs down from his outrageous claims, whenever he pushes the envelope too far, at least his entourage goes on damage control to walk back some of his excesses – Carney’s guys are doubling down.

Despite these idiotic statements, these are intelligent men. The odds that all three of them would simultaneously become afflicted by the same psychotic delusion is infinitesimally small. The only rational conclusion, therefore, is that they believe, or rather their polling data shows, that enough Canadians are so possessed by Trump Derangement that engaging in such asinine demagoguery is politically expedient.

Sadly, they may be right. The vast coalition of useful idiots and true believers after effectively having their intelligences insulted by their dear leader, are coming out of the woodwork to express gratitude online for the Prime Minister’s caution in preparing for all, including the most remote, contingencies. Others are retreating slightly to hold the line at the fall-back position articulated by Minister McGuinty that, this kind of paranoid delusion is perfectly normal and, “all militaries in the world spend time analyzing risk scenarios.”

I assure you, this is not normal.

Back on planet Earth, the situation is tense and acrimonious (and there is plenty of blame to go around for that), but this is not the more than two centuries of peace along the 49th parallel that followed the signing of the Treaty of Ghent in 1815 drawing to an end. Trump has imposed tariffs on $20 billion (or 2% of the $400 billion per year) of Canadian exports to the US. In other words, amid this unnecessary, escalatory, and foolish trade dispute, the United States will still purchase 200% more Canadian goods and services this year than the rest of the world combined. This situation is like a restaurant’s picky regular customer complaining about an overcooked steak to a prideful chef who, fortified in his own mind by the knowledge he cooked the steak perfectly, refuses to comp the entree. This is not the start of World War III. We are so far removed from a military incursion at our southern border that we may as well be strategizing the response to the equally plausible threat of Santa Claus leading an invasion of elves from the north.

If we woke up tomorrow in some parallel reality where the United States actually was contemplating a full-scale military campaign against Canada, with all due respect to our brave men and women in uniform, the only preparations to be made would be negotiating the terms of our unconditional surrender. Some brave and patriotic Canadians may refuse to submit and instead choose to conduct, as a matter of principle, a brutal and bloody guerilla warfare campaign against the strongest conventional and nuclear military force in the history of the world. Unfortunately, they would be in the precarious position of having to rely on our miserly European allies, or countries like Russia or China, whose recent actions have been significantly more hostile and provocative challenges to our sovereignty than the US tariffs, to supply us with weapons, and they would not remotely be adequate. It’s all so desperately preposterous.

But for the sake of argument, let’s suppose that Donald Trump was indeed the terrifying bogeyman haunting the dreams of the most extreme and hopeless sufferers of Trump Derangement Syndrome and its frightful sister affliction, Andrew Coyneism, a rare and especially acute form of tweet-induced psychotic maladjustment. Even in this scenario, why would Trump use the military to annex Canada? All he would have to do is offer Alberta statehood, liberation from transfer payments, excessive regulation and carbon taxes, carte blanche to exploit its natural resources, a generous welcome bonus in the form of a $100,000 tax credit to every adult Albertan and replace their Canadian dollars with equal amounts of US currency. They would effectively be acquiring Alberta for the knock-down bargain price of roughly 1x annual GDP.

Simultaneously, the US (including the newly acquired Alberta) would immediately cut off all trade with the rest of Canada. The net impact to Canada of this manoeuvre would be a cataclysmic economic collapse, while the newly composed United States would take a net GDP hit (loss of all trade with Canada, mostly offset by the acquisition of Alberta) of 0.8%. Next would come a full package of sanctions, a naval blockade, and when the rest of Canada became desperate enough, a Chinese belt-and-road style offtake of all of Canada’s resources at bargain prices, which by then, the Canadians would be desperate for. In the meantime, the US would revamp its immigration policy to recreate the brain-drain of the 1990s on steroids, welcoming the top 20% most productive Canadians to flee what had overnight become the third world. Harvard Alumnus Mark Carney might well be among those at the front of the line seeking this emigration opportunity, rejoining 91 percent of his own investments already located there.

There would, no doubt, be a fearsome contingent of Canadians refusing to bend or break in the face of American tyranny, and elbows would be flying up to vertiginous heights with such vigour that the Canadian healthcare system would be overwhelmed by millions of spontaneous emergency room visits of patriotic patients with dislocated shoulders.

I suspect many of you reading this are thinking to yourself that this is so completely far-fetched and absurd that, if serious, I must have lost my mind. Allow me to reassure you that while this is all bunk, it remains at least ten times more likely than the United States military executing a boots-on-the-ground invasion of Canada. Anyone who spends more than one second worrying about such an outcome should immediately proceed to the nearest sink to splash some cold water in their face and pull themselves together.

I lived in Canada for nearly a decade. Up there they have a practice called “hallway medicine” where they park beds and treat people in hallways because there are no rooms available.

One of my best friends was rushed to the ER with the worst headache of her life — and she had a history of brain cancer. They made her wait (which can take hours in a Canadian ER). Eventually she slumped over and died of an aneurism at the age of 25.

I was once waiting with my wife to be seen for a staph infection on her face. About six hours in of waiting in the ER waiting room (and being harassed several times by a drunk homeless woman for cigarettes) a large man comes in bleeding from his abdomen. They made him sit and wait to be triaged with a growing puddle of blood on the floor in front of him. After about a half an hour he begged to be seen and showed them that he was bleeding and they got annoyed with him and told him to go sit back down and wait.

We waited about 10 hours and then decided to go home.

My mother-in-law waited for nearly an entire year to have her neurostimulator that is literally wired into her spine replaced. She was bumped three times — one time she was literally ON THE OPERATING TABLE when she got rescheduled.

Yet you won’t hear complaints from Canadians about their healthcare system because it’s an unspoken taboo — but when every 1 in 20 Canadians is being killed by their government intentionally, it’s becoming hard to ignore.

Mark Carney could not be more out of touch.

With Canadians missing meals and mortgage payments, and days before he addresses the European Parliament (instead of the Canadian Parliament) we learn in a foreign newspaper of secret talks to make Canada an "Associate Member" of the European Union.

This is not about diversifying trade: we have had tariff-free trade with Europe for over a decade. They would buy more of our goods today if the Liberal government would get out of the way and permit mines, pipelines, LNG plants to produce and ship them.

Canadians deserve answers: Is the WSJ report true about associate membership in the EU?

If so, will European border policies apply in Canada, further overwhelming our immigration system while our youth can’t find homes?
Will Canadian waitresses struggling with rent have to pay tax dollars to the bloated EU bureaucracy?

Will Canadian small businesses be buried under the red tape of Eurocrats that have never met a Canadian entrepreneur?

All questions I’d ask in Parliament, but it is shuttered.

And one more: who decides for Canada?

The Welland welder did not elect a Eurocrat to regulate our steel. The Saskatchewan farmer and the Atlantic fisherman did not choose a Brussels agrifood regulator that has never even seen our prairies or coasts.

We will NEVER be the 51st U.S. state. And we will NEVER be the 28th EU state.

We are Canadians. This is our home, our freedom, our sovereignty, our people.

Now and forever.
