At the last moment, ahead of next week’s action, the Government has moved and made a new offer for resident doctors in England.
Strikes for 15–19 June have been called off while members vote on a new offer covering jobs, pay and progression.
The choice is yours:
Vote YES and accept the offer, or vote NO and return to escalated industrial action.
Remember when Government sold ACPs as a cost-cutting solution to the (completely manufactured) medical workforce crisis?
Well, here’s a job advert for LOCUM ACPs. Out-earning qualified medical doctors with a fraction of the knowledge and expertise.
Job requirement? Paltry!
Cardiology ACP job advert
You will work as a Cardiology Dr, with all the responsibilities of a Dr but you’re not replacing a Dr .
@DrAsifQasim what stage of training would a Dr be to do this level of work ?

We've written to the Secretary of State and NHS England CEO calling for urgent action to address unsafe doctor substitution by employers.
The letter comes in the wake of our survey report revealing doctors' serious concerns over patient safety. 🔗 https://t.co/tqhjxqUQU6
🔴 Another patient was rescued from being killed by an Advanced Practitioner in A&E.
This ACP dude, who could be a physio, paramedic, or even a pharmacist, doesn’t know how to read ECGs and missed a potentially fatal heart attack (STEMI) 💀☠️
⭕️ The patient could’ve arrested in the waiting room.
⭕️ The shameless EM consultant knew the ACP didn’t have a clue about ECGs, yet allowed them to have a crack.
⭕️ They didn’t introduce themselves properly.
God knows how many patients have been killed and brushed under the carpet by NHS Trusts.
On Emergency Medicine Day 2026
I ask the @RCollEM@RCEMpresident@svig2@RCEMACPChair to put an end to your ridiculous and dangerous tiered rotas . A medical rota should ONLY have Drs on it . #Emday26
>5000 doctors raised concerns about how advanced practitioners are employed in the NHS.

Raise any concerns you have through the reporting portal.
The taskification of medicine must stop. Some things require a medical degree.
Jobless F2 doctors are getting their shifts filled by clueless ACPs, who can be physios, dietitians, OTs, etc.
This is how your doctors are being pushed aside in the NHS.
"96 shifts were filled by Advanced Care Practitioners in 12 months- cover for FY2 shifts"
Riddle me this- educationists in healthcare
If an ACP knowledge and education is at the level of an FY2 doctor?
Why do you have medical school places -and simply not encourage other professions to become ACP?
And if good enough for FY2- why not all other posts- including Consultant?
Or was this just an attempt to tackle locums- and tempt other professions with a different payscale- given AfC rates are so poor?
Half baked plans helps neither ACPs or Doctors.
Why not define clearly requirements for rotas- rather than this nonsense which creates more divisive rhetoric.
I repeat- we are led in the workforce sector by clowns.
@DHSCgovuk@NHSEngland@NHSE_WTE
🔴 Doctors raised concerns about nurses and other AHPs (physios, pharmacists, etc.) having a crack at doctors’ jobs in ED and paediatrics working at registrar/consultant level such as consultant ACPs.
⭕️Meanwhile, a clueless chief nurse is beating around the bush and diverting the conversation to “district nurses”?
⭕️Never seen any doctor bashing district nurses who are minding their own nursing business.
Stick to your base profession!
🏴☠️Hello Chartered Society of Physios,
I have community noted your post as it contains false/misleading information.
⭕️The ACP role itself is not regulated. It is a made-up and vague role created by AHPs to masquerade as doctors.
⭕️Being a physio regulated by the HCPC does not entitle you to be on the doctors’ rota.
⭕️Please retract and apologise for the bile you spewed on MedTwitter.
⭕️Physios are indemnified to work as physios, not doctor knockoffs.
I hope you show some insight
'The only thing they do not do is write death certificates'
As @TheBMA publishes a survey of >5,000 doctors on advanced practitioners (APs), @ben_ireland_11 looks at the data and speaks to @Melissa_S_Ryan about how regularly APs are being used as doctor substitutes and the impact on patient safety [1/9]

81% of doctors fear patients are being put at risk because of how advanced practitioners are being used by employers in the NHS.

For me, this paper exposes the rotten core of the workforce substitution project.
Millions of pounds and hours of manpower have been wasted writing nice frameworks and sitting on national committees for employers to IGNORE THEM.
Because there is NO regulation.

So to draw a BIG RED LINE under it, the MAJORITY were not qualified, either clinically or educationally, for their jobs.
Despite this, the payoffs were considerable. Most had participated in committees, chaired committees and/or contributed to guidelines.

Calling all podiatrists, dieticians and physios who want to become consultant clinical endoscopists with no postgraduate qualifications required whatsoever (MSc/PhD).
Discuss.
