Visiting a Manor House tomorrow with Phil from Harvington Hall and Paul Hodgetts who edited his father’s book on priest hides. I have the local knowledge of recusancy in the the area.
Hear ye! 'Tis time for #StuartSaturday! Today is All Saints' Day and our theme is saints of (or important to) the c17 and those celebrated during that period. Here, I have Margaret Clitherow, who was an English Catholic recusant known as The Pearl of York. She was executed in 1586.
@ladydhistory By being against Christ’s mother, the reformers were infact against Christ. By smashing roods and crucifixes, they were against the cross. In the history of the church, heresy has taken many forms..

For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'
