The project on the manuscript dissemination of optical texts between 13th and 16th centuries, based at @FLU_AV_CR. Tweets by Lukáš Lička (@scholipeta).
Pleased to launch the account of the project on textual traditions of late medieval optics, "The Age of Peckham: The Role of John Peckham's Perspectiva communis in the Dissemination and Development of Optical Knowledge, 1279–1542", funded by the Czech Science Foundation. [1/5]
I'm working on Hartmann's 1542 edition of Peckham's Perspectiva communis, and have just come across this lovely passage about Pirckheimer (Grafton 1998).
I will be presenting a paper on 'Undercover Survival Within a Re-mediated Text: Interpolations in Georg Hartmann’s 1542 Edition of John Peckham’s Perspectiva communis'.
I gave a talk on "Conservative Textual Trends in Sixteenth-Century Optics: Georg Hartmann and the Continuity of the Peckhamist Tradition", and had many interesting conversations afterwards. A big thank thank you to the organisers! #Scientiae2026
The programme of the conference 'Les commentaires de la Physique de la Bibliotheca Amploniana d’Erfurt' (Paris), starting tomorrow: https://t.co/ZGCJtcMee0
I will present a paper 'From Physics to Optics: Assessing the Optical Part of the Amplonian Collection in Erfurt'.
A productive day at the ÖNB in Vienna! Among other codices, I examined a 16th-century copy of Alhacen's De aspectibus that seems to preserve a set of marginal glosses shared with much earlier commentaries to Alhacen.
To be included in the Addenda to Lindberg's catalogue!
Looking forward to the upcoming Lodz conference on medieval theories of sense perception!
I'll present a joint paper with Aurora Panzica on 'Fifteenth-century Discussions on Light and Its Role in Visual Perception in the Cracow Commentaries on De anima and Perspectiva communis'.
Looking forward to presenting some new findings on the reception of the recently identified optical treatise Perspectiva cum sit una!

... and issues of the reception of the newly identified "Perspectiva cum sit una", interpolations in Hartmann’s edition, and the incorporation of the new calculatory physics of light into optical texts will be examined through textual and conceptual analyses. [5/5]

Along the way, the cultural transfers and European-wide dimension of the discipline will be demonstrated on the newly reconstructed Peckhamist part of the corpus (with texts from Oxford, Paris, Vienna, Leipzig, Würzburg, Cracow, Bologna, Pavia, Alcalá, and Nuremberg), ... [4/5]
