"One of the criticisms you sometimes hear of communism, for example, is that it sounds good in theory, but it never works in practice. That’s actually not true. Communism does not sound good in theory.
The world it envisions for all of us is small, flat, grey, leveled of all exception, drained of all that is good and noble in the human soul.
The world it envisions is a world without courage, a world without creativity or ambition, a world without heroes or glory or great causes to strive towards, without – a world without miracles, without myths, without men who rise above the rest to do incredible and extraordinary things. And the world communism envisions is a world without God.
For these architects of revolutionary violence, the towering achievement of our civilization – for them it’s an unbearable humiliation, a reminder of what they cannot do and a reminder of what they cannot be. So they choose instead to destroy." -@SecRubio
Yes, those photos you’ve seen are real.
More than 18 years ago, a baby named Lamine Yamal and his mom Sheila met Lionel Messi at a UNICEF fundraising photoshoot.
Today, their achievements on the pitch inspire millions. Off the pitch, both Messi and Lamine Yamal use their voices and platforms as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors to support and advocate for children around the world.
The goal? That every child survives, thrives, and fulfils their potential.
We are proud to have them on our team.

Happy to release a new side project I've been working on for the past couple of months — and really accelerated in the past two weeks in my spare time.
It's a website about the race for the next Secretary-General of the United Nations:
➡️ 🔗 https://t.co/uElSKY3uTA
It was a complicated project. I could have just listed all six candidates and their bios. That I could have built and shipped in a week. Easy.
But I tried to go deeper: I picked 16 key global issues - UN80 reform, multilateralism, Security Council reform, Iran, Gaza, Russia/Ukraine, and more - and found where each candidate stands, and what exactly they have said, on each one.
But here's the thing — it gets more complicated.
Everything on the site is directly sourced. If I couldn't source it, it isn't on the site.
And it gets even more complicated (complicated x3): the candidates speak in different capacities — as candidates, or in their current jobs. For example, when Rafael Grossi talks about Iran, is he speaking as IAEA chief or as a man running for Secretary-General? The site labels every quote with the capacity it was spoken in. It's all about nuance - and letting the reader decide.
So: six candidates (for now) · 16 topics · 99 sourced position entries.
One more thing, and it matters most to me: every quote from the candidates' public hearings carries an "automated transcript" mark until I've checked it against the recording myself.
18+ hours of hearings indexed - and where a quote hasn't yet been human verified by ear, the site says so, on the page.
It was built with AI tools. Which ones - and exactly what they did and didn't do - is disclosed in the footer.
It's optimized for mobile, so it should read well on your phone.
Enjoy - and if you spot an error, there's a corrections form on the site. I mean it. Use it.
Lastly, I plan to write a blog post in the coming days about how exactly I used the AI tools in research and made sure I cemented in hard and fast guardrails for accuracy from the start.

"The hardest decision we had to make in completing this report was.. not to name the Palestinian children, whose deaths, injuries & suffering we describe.. we didn't name them because we feared the consequences for their families"
He means Israel would go after them too.
When journalists are attacked, impunity is often the result. @UNESCO's Global Media Defence Fund (GMDF) exists to change that.
Its newly published annual report documents a year of concrete action: 603 legal assistance cases, 65 strategic litigation cases, and 63 investigations into crimes against journalists — supporting 1,900 journalists, more than half of them women.
With the support of its partners, the fund continues to push justice systems to act — case by case, country by country.

With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, 10th April 2026, to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes.
Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability. We earnestly hope, that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days!

"Whatever differences countries have, we can all agree they will not be solved by killing schoolchildren.
That is why we have the laws of war: to protect children and other civilians caught up in conflict, as well as schools and all civilian infrastructure." - @volker_turk
In this age of war our addiction to fossil fuels is destabilizing the climate, global economy & global security.
Now more than ever, we must accelerate a just transition to renewable energy.
Renewables deliver climate security, energy security & national security.

Brazil’s president Lula is warning that the global race for critical minerals could repeat a long history of colonial extraction.
There’s so much to unpack in that Asake doc Korty made. She is a genius and truly one of the most remarkable storytellers of our time.
The one thing that stood out for me was his rebellion against reason and stubbornly insisting on his own path in life even when his parents wanted differently for him.
I know his story is that of an outlier, but Life gives no certainty to anyone. In the end, the most courageous thing you can do is to take a chance on your self and answer the question of who you want to become with your own life.
You can feel his quiet conviction and deep sense of providence that somehow everything would work out. And It did.
Please watch that doc if you haven’t, but more importantly fight for your place in the world. We only get to do this life ting once.
What a star, Asake! I will forever remember what Asake’s mother said from 25th minute. Thank you Ahmed. For being you, you’ve inspired others to be themselves too. Being stubbornly glued to pursuing your dreams have brought so much goodness & wisdom that will inspire generations.
I’m emotional rn 😖 God gave me a gift, so I’m constantly chasing excellence to keep getting better. We’re a small but hungry team & I know we will find the greatness we seek. Love Asake & his team for being kind & trusting us with this story ❤️ Pls watch https://t.co/Z8Gz8ZbbDU
He abducted a sitting president and his wife and put them in jail. He bombed a head of state and his family out of existence. He tried and failed to take over Greenland. He is now threatening to take over Cuba, a country that has not threatened his own.
Does this sound like a leader who represents democracy to the world?
