If you play basketball, you need to learn how to MISS.
Yep, you read that right.
Obviously, the goal is to make every shot you take.
But even if you’re an elite shooter… you’re going to miss almost half of them.
The question is: How do you respond when you miss?
Because how you miss matters more than you think.
Great players don’t just work on their shooting form.
They work on their response to a miss:
🎯 Positive self-talk – Instead of “I can’t believe I missed that,” it’s “Next one’s mine.”
🎯 Positive body language – Shoulders up, head high, eyes forward. No slouching, no sulking.
🎯 Next Play mentality – Don’t carry the last miss into the next possession. Reset. Refocus. Respond.
Because here’s the truth: “How you miss one shot… will directly impact whether or not you make the next one.”
Missing is part of the game.
Carrying that miss with you? That’s a choice.
And that choice affects performance.
This isn’t just about basketball—it’s about life and leadership.
You’re going to make mistakes. You’re going to fall short.
What matters is how quickly you can bounce back, re-center, and move on.
The best players—and the best leaders—have short memories for failure and long commitments to growth.
So if you want to perform at a high level, don’t just train to make shots…
Train yourself to miss the right way.
Because THAT is the real game-changer.
Heard a coach at the batting cage tonight tell his boys…” Decide! The road of life is littered with flat squirrels that couldn’t decide.”
I like that guy! 👊💪

Too many kids quit sports because they don't feel comfortable as athletes. Some don't think they belong, and some don't believe they can succeed. Overall, they feel more anxiety than joy when on the field. As a coach, you need to create an environment where none of this happens.
