The McDougall Creek Fire in Kelowna has jumped Okanagan Lake.
#wildfire#canada
A State of Emergency has been declared in the British Columbia city.
The fire is estimated at nearly 17,000 acres (6,900 hectares) and high winds fueled spot fires that crossed to the East side of the lake. Multiple structures were lost.
There is concern today of a wind switch out of the east pushing the fire back into the community. Definitely a day to stay heads up.

I’ve never experienced or imagined a fire season like this, which won’t be over for another month or two. >50% of residents of the enormous Northwest Territories 🇨🇦 are displaced. Canada’s largest northern city Yellowknife evacuated last night. PLEASE take note. #ClimateCrisis
So, this happened. Grant County Sheriff’s office arrests USFS burn boss for “reckless burning” after prescribed burn spills over into private land.
Can they do that? Is there any precedent??
We're so excited to share this new #infographic with you, created in partnership w/ @GBfirescience & based on much convo, feedback, & discussion with partners at

To advance wildfire research, experts are banding together with a strategic & holistic approach.
Led by NCAR’s @JacquelynShuman & 86 🔥 experts, a recent study calls for convergence w/in the field to promote innovation. #NSFfunded@knowinnovation@NSF

Call to action commentary: Reimagine #FireScience for the #Anthropocene. We need to support a holistic + collective approach in order for #FireScience to inform policy + action in a more fiery world 🔥 Thanks to my 86 co-authors for this synthesis 🔥 https://t.co/eSG4wDVyPm
Important coverage of fire and exotic grasses in Science journal. 🔥🔨@COFOregonState Including great work by @cmtortorelli and Ty Nietupski/Becky Kerns not on twitter, and amazing fellow researchers and managers.

@Madronus@ThomasforBC @pyrogeog @emilydolhansky Hi all. I'm late to the conversation, but @emilydolhansky I'm happy to chat with you about these concepts. And here's link to Forest Steward Guild webinar on topic, that was mentioned above: https://t.co/anECnXYmNv
Hot off the press from @BioInvasions! A deeper dive into the mechanisms driving #ventenata success with @MegKrawchuk. Removing resident species did not influence community resistance to invasion in non-forest veg types https://t.co/W0EC9diol2 https://t.co/W0EC9diol2
First week in the field as a postdoc with the Latimer-Young ecology lab! Revisiting some 20+ year old burns. Surprising amount of #cheatgrass in these severely burned CA conifer forests 🔥
I just saw my old position is open. Statistical consultant with teaching duties, MS level stats, clients primarily in natural resources.

Supporting grad students in their research was my fave thing about this role. #statistics
Amazing work from amazing PhD student @cmtortorelli@COFOregonState. Invasion ecology + fire + traits + environmental gradient. Claire's work on the invasive grass Ventenata dubia showing us how invasion is playing out in dry forest🌲ecosystems of the PNW https://t.co/3Qzxt1ziX4

A key mechanism of resilience to severe #fire in #serotinous (closed cone) #forests is having a cone bank ready to go when fire comes. But how quickly do young post-fire #trees produce enough #cones to recharge the cone bank before the next fire? read on...
