To celebrate #nationaldogday and my debut pub in @NoTokensJournal journal — with an essay about my beloved dog, Whiskey — I made you all a photo essay thread to go along with the words one. https://t.co/Y7UG2pzBDr
Big news: I discovered the *real* thing no one tells you about querying. Every time you think you've spliced and saved your manuscript into every possible length and configuration, a new one will come your way. Just waiting on the agent who wants 67 pages. (Love you, agents.)
The vastness between the space of writing and the time of publishing is a strange land. Grammy died days before this came out; my dog sits here now, still. I'm so grateful for the work of @ThanatosReview and the writers within, and honored to be with them. https://t.co/rzO2xupQZV
Super appreciative of the @Innamo & @MattDugan4DA volunteer who helped with the wrangling of my chaotic puppy and annoyed senior dog at the Edgewood polling place so I could cast a vote for Sara and Matt!(Penny promptly tried to eat this sticker.)
If you actually care about helping people with these diseases, push against legislation that bans fetal tissue and animal research. Advocate for more research dollars. Push for environmental regulation. But scare tactics aren’t the answer.
Sooo here’s the thing: no one *wants* Parkinson’s. But threads of horror stories like these really don’t help anyone who has it or, like me, is married to someone with it. There have been major advances, and while I wouldn’t wish PD on anyone, it’s not all desperate and hopeless.
A neurologist friend told me earlier into the pandemic that she predicted more cases of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's & Alzheimer's disease due to Covid in a decade or two. That had guided much of my behaviour.
@Wick_the_Stick@HillaryClinton Fun fact: If someone is telling a fun anecdote, you don’t have to copy edit them. (This also applies to sad stories, cute asides and, really, any communication you’ve not been asked to weigh in on.)
Today in puppy school, the teacher told me Penny is the @HillaryClinton of dogs. “Nothing phases her. She keeps her composure. This dog would totally take six hours of questioning and look at you like she’d be fine with more.” Possibly my proudest puppy moment.
As my grandmother's journey nears its end, I've been thinking about taking communion at her funeral mass, in memory of her. I laughed at the idea of asking for gluten-free Jesus...then learned the Vatican really hates celiacs and forbids GF eucharist. https://t.co/e8HBCNaJuF
@writesloud This country has privatized what should be a public good. Care isn’t meant to be shouldered by individuals; it’s a systemic failure. W/o structural supports, the burden continues to fall primarily to women, who feel guilty for not being superhuman. I’m sorry you’re facing this.
@AlysonPomerantz I KNOW. He also said he was glad he’d been able to be there for her and me over the years?! Like, my dude, you never helped me with anything except a swift exit from the Catholic Church, and when my grandmother actually asks something of you - literal dying wish - you said nah.
Struggle to say no?
At her request, I emailed my grandma’s priest of decades to ask if he would do her Last Rites/funeral, even though he just moved to a new parish.
He said he hopes I’m well (dying grandma, babe) but he’s busy, so no, but he’ll pray for her.
You can do it.
