Increasing and decreasing are tricky #academicvocabulary terms for ELs. And you can bet they will appear on math/ science state tests. As always, visuals FTW😊 Sentence strips are cause/effect statements.
@KatieToppel I took your destination and forecast lesson and brought it to our kindergarteners! It was a hit! Day 1 we did listening and speaking and Day 2 we extended to writing. I will admit I did not dress as a flight attendant😉
I urge every teacher who has English learners/MLs in their classroom to read this piece. Let's think deeply about SoR & Multilingual Learners. @AscenziMoreno@TESOL_Assn https://t.co/EoVrRs00MH
"We want to make sure that we’re not trading more phonics for less vocabulary or less comprehension,” Hernandez said.
They also agreed that English learners should ideally be in programs that help them become proficient in at least two languages."

@SaraKniggeESL@Jechev @KatieToppel @SIOPModel@CABEBEBILINGUAL Agree! Many people at my school are asking about SOR and our ELs- would love a virtual session before June or some key points to share!
Are you surprised to see that:
1. Pull-out ESL produced the LOWEST results, yet
2. Two-way bilingual programs produced the HIGHEST results for MLs?
Interpretation: For Ss to develop English, we need to develop their heritage language as well.
When you and your colleague both screenshot the EXACT SAME tweet bc you want to send it but it's late and you think she's asleep but turns out you're both trying to problem solve education at 11pm @CAOMcLeary (it was this tweet)
Content goal (changes in matter)✔️ language goal (sequencing, cause and effect)✔️ literacy goal (encoding, writing complete sentences)✔️ Trying to do it all bc we have no time to waste!! #SLIFE#MLL
@nytimes@stavernise this teacher is disappointed that The Daily's discussion of NAEP scores didn't include a single mention of #multilinguallearners and the huge numbers of kids who spent the pandemic hearing and speaking very little English.
