Our oldest trees are (arguably) 2,000 years old; our oldest peat bog has been storing Sphagnum moss carbon for 20,000 years. 'Ancient' forest is defined as 600 years old; our 'typical' peat bogs are 2,000 to 8,000 years old, storing more carbon than even the original wildwood.
