Are these “pilot zones,” by any chance, the same areas that Israel has already depopulated, demolished and occupied?
Does the ceasefire leave room for Israel to fight Hezbollah if the Lebanese state proves unable to keep Hezbollah out of the zones?
Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a ceasefire, which is odd considering Lebanon hasn’t been fighting Israel and has in fact withdrawn from southern Lebanon to avoid fighting Israel. But sure why not?
There will be “pilot zones” in which LAF will take control and “all non-state actors will be banned.” Has Hezbollah agreed? (As far as I know, no) If not please explain the enforcement mechanisms. Is the under-equippped, 1/3 Shiite LAF going to fight Hezbollah?

@jasmineelgamal I actually think it’s deep and intriguing, the idea (time-honored and embedded in military code) that violating marriage vows means you might also betray the country. It just doesn’t feel true to me. I suspect we picked better people when we were blind to their personal lives.
@jasmineelgamal We need to accept that people just see this differently. Some think infidelity to a spouse = overarching lack of honor. Others (me) don’t care. Some of our best leaders had ugly personal lives and vice versa. Everyone has a right to vote on their own criteria.
If Platner was a Republican, this lady would be penning a 5000 word column demanding he drop out and be wondering what happened to the #MeToo movement.
Listen to what Graham Platner’s wife has to say about this story. It’s not exactly the scandal it’s being made out to be.
Seems like it only got attention because this former staffer Genevieve McDonald can’t stand to see Platner doing well after she fled his campaign.
At this point, I think most American voters would accept all kinds of flaws if they think the candidate can help them/save them some money.
I don’t think people feel they have space to be purists.
But let’s see.
Maybe I’m wrong (we’ll find out!) but I’m not convinced voters care about Platner’s tattoos or sexting — for so many reasons including acute material problems, cynicism about media/candidates, and acclimating to people like Trump and RFK Jr.
“Fearing for the unborn baby, Gyasi said she would rather be deported than not have enough food. She was provided food once she signed a deportation order, the lawyers say.”
Western and particularly U.S. behavior, more than ever post-Oct 7, makes it obvious that Palestinian lives are deemed cheaper.
It’s still extraordinary that this logic is so entrenched that any suggestion that lives are of equal value actually makes these officials angry.
James Zogby (@jjz1600) describing his meetings about Gaza with senior Biden foreign policy staff (Jake Sullivan and Antony Blunken) is really something else.

If my lifelong best friend is secretly texting my spouse about me, and actually writes the words “you deserve better” — about me — that friendship is over forever. I don’t care how much of a jerk I’ve been. My own lifelong best friend would never.

I actually think the role of Phil in this situation is overall quite strange and under-explained.
If the author cut short a reporting trip and rushed home to save his marriage — why did his high school friend fly in to sleep in the attic and generally be underfoot?
