True story people we thought were smart honest and trust worthy showed their true colors with Covid. We found out who is smart enough to avoid infection with simple safety measures and who is not. In some cases we find members of our own family who don't bother to take it serious
I don't say this lightly folks. The XBB 1.15 variant that is exploding in the NE USA, has the potential to be the most deadly wave in pandemic history. Even with the collapsed system of accurately tabulating COVID hospitalizations, we are on pace to surpass the omicron BA 1 wave
As we struggle trying to make safe holiday plans with family again this year, I can't help but wonder about a parallel universe, where the early 2020 speech from leaders went like this:
@Bob_Wachter@UCSF we're finishing year 3 right now, heading into year 4, and we'll be in this predicament for as long as we continue to follow individualist risk assessment plans like yours
I tried very gently to suggest that the neuropathic, vascular, lymph system damaging, organ damaging, micro-clotting virus they've all had might be responsible, but they're sticking with the non-existent lockdown they say they had. 😔
@memawantstruth @YoniFreedhoff Having LOVE for my community and honoring their long-term health ain't fear. Being afraid of your buddies seein ya with a mask on... now THAT'S pathetic. Suck a sloth.
One thing that contributes to the invisiblization of the COVID pandemic, in addition to anti-mask peer pressure, is that cautious & vulnerable people stay home. #LongCovid afflictees stay home. The dead stay in the ground. RN public sphere is a masterclass in Survivorship Bias.
The reason you aren't seeing many masks in conference and holiday party photos is because the people smart enough, responsible enough, and/or vulnerable enough to wear them can't or won't attend inequitable, unsafe events.
