The Dodgers were bidding against themselves.

Every other team knew Skubal was signing there at the end of the year, so there was no point sending a huge haul for a two month rental.

@Shauncore Whatever man. Again yes the Dodgers are a fantastic organization but to ignore the differences between them and the Brewers/Rays of the world is complete ignorance and will continue to be a black mark on the game until fixed.

This is just a tired take. Yes absolutely the Dodgers are a top tier organization in terms of drafting and development. It doesn’t mean that the free agency system is the correct one.

I'll say it again, Dodgers aren't just money. They've won 2 straight WS titles (and 3 of the last 6) and still have a top tier prospect pipeline to afford stars like this when they come available. They simply are on another level top to bottom compared to any team in any sport

@Shauncore Brewers and Rays view Skubal as a 2 month rental whereas LAD see this as much more than that. Because of that, LAD can value Skubal higher. And that’s not taking into account the fact that the LAD can just buy the best available free agent to replace the prospect they lost.

@Shauncore Yes, money isn’t everything but it certainly helps. I would argue organizations like the Rays and Brewers are just as good if not better at some of those things you mentioned but they haven’t been able to win a World Series.

Brewers and Rays have stacked systems and would probably love to make a trade but to them Skubal is a 2 month rental whereas the Dodgers view it as an early start for negotiations. LAD will be able to pay more in prospects. Perfect example how free agency affects everything.
