8Review Implementation of IRGC Listing
While Canada’s designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization is an important step, its implementation should be enhanced with increased resources. It should also be carefully reviewed to ensure it does not inadvertently impact individuals who were compelled to complete mandatory military service without involvement in wrongdoing. A targeted and precise approach will strengthen both fairness and effectiveness. Soroush Salehi from @IRGCConscripts (UCAN) would be a valuable source to consult on this matter.
The principle of the Responsibility to Protect, developed with Canadian leadership @lloydaxworthy , exists precisely for moments such as this. It does not necessarily require military intervention, but it does require timely and meaningful action.
A free and democratic Iran would not only benefit its people, but also contribute to regional stability, global security, and the safety of Canadians at home.
Minister, in coordination with our allies, Canada has both the opportunity and the responsibility to act, both abroad and domestically. The decisions made today can help save lives and uphold the values we share.
Thank you for your leadership and attention to this urgent matter. I remain at your disposal and, together with my network, stand ready to assist in any way that may be helpful.
Sincerely,
Nazanin Afshin-Jam💚🕊️❤️

Dear Mr. Ehsasi (@AliEhsassi),
I’d like to bring the following points to your attention:
- We all want to ensure regime elements cannot find Canada a safe haven, and we agree that pragmatic actions must be taken. Yet no practical steps have been implemented, while the Liberal gov. is punishing conscripts by wrongly labelling them “members” of the IRGC through PFLs (as you are aware and have previously received solid documentation on). Moreover, the 2023 @globalnews article reported that 700 regime affiliates, confirmed by the RCMP, are in Canada, and sadly, they still remain here! (https://t.co/9mmCKnrxcN)
- You’ve mentioned a “responsible manner.”
I’m personally surprised that after nearly 2.5 years of affected conscripts’ families posting countless tweets on X and tagging you as a responsible MP, you are only now responding to this post.
My question is: Is it “responsible” to ignore 2.5 years of efforts, yet accuse us of flagging an issue that the gov. has recently been criticized for due to lack of responsibility?
- You asked me to send you docs. However, this is the responsibility of Canadian agencies to provide. I’d recommend wrapping up the current case you have already been provided (refer to the conscription issue) before jumping to the next case.
