@kelseyhightower I went to Rutgers, a pretty heavy course load in low level C was required for all CS grads (comp arch & systems programming). A reasonable chunk of people went on to take classes like OS, DB impl, internet tech (all in c). I think this is a common state school experience.
@phillipcaudell I'm additionally finding that anything ambitious (TextKit / PencilKit) requires heavy use of UIKit / AppKit anyways.
We have 4 instances of *ViewRepresentables with a fair bit of trickiness for SwiftUI interop.
Not sure if something like PKCanvas could even be built in swiftui.
@chef_bowyer The cancel attempts are successful even for the most prominent people: https://t.co/z4Skdy0bUk. There's a long list of non-prominent people who have been cancelled for less: https://t.co/qezrFhKcE9.
@dathanb@kelseyhightower It's a self correcting process imo, today if we reach ACH scale BTC tx's cost more and become less attractive (cost of waiting goes down). I'm sure both ACH and BTC will continue to innovate. But right now several use cases (used car, remittances) are already compelling for BTC.
@kelseyhightower There are many ways to scale on top, some are decentralized and nascent (https://t.co/J82QUxGP17), others are built for higher volume with various trad-offs (https://t.co/FF0cUdl4ZF).
Many options, the innovation here is (if needed) I can self-custody and avoid censorship.
@kelseyhightower Somewhat an apples/oranges comparison, as one is a payment network and another is a settlement layer. Bitcoin is much faster than a check settling for a used car.
@kelseyhightower Additionally, as others have pointed out, mining is bad compared to what? It doesn’t required armored trucks, guns, and buildings full of “fraud specialists” to prevent fraud. Think about the authentication strategies of legacy finance.
@kelseyhightower I don’t think trying mining is worthwhile unless you can think about how to do it profitably. In our part of the world this looks like setting up renewable energy very far from the grid (eg solar panel farm in AZ). Which is perhaps one if the “aha” moments wrt “is mining good”?
@kelseyhightower When you have time, give the hardware wallet experience a go, it’s pretty refined and a local optima for most people with regards to security. I think this & lightning network is where most Bitcoin UX investments are taking place.
@kelseyhightower Bitcoin offers you the *ability* to self-custody your assets, not the obligation. You can use reputable custodies to manage your keys (@Gemini, @coinbase) just like banks with cash. Self-custody of keys (if you desire it) is reasonably well explored space (@Trezor, @CasaHODL).
@kelseyhightower Crypto and payments aside:
Slightly simpler would be using proof of work, as proposed by an early bitcoin developer (https://t.co/vSWT93KjRM).
You have to generate a random value such that your email's hash contains some value. Spam becomes expensive, filtration becomes cheap.
@real_vijay Google has several messengers none of them e2e encrypted. Their advertising incentives make privacy a low priority. They have many recorded instances of censorship and collaborating with governments (https://t.co/qezrFhKcE9). I doubt they will own btc publicly and directly.
@HotepJesus It can fall under whatever jurisdiction they pretend is legitimate, doesn’t matter because most people lose their Bitcoin in boating accidents.
@Westside4Bernie@DeAngelisCorey Don’t your “I might be the bad guy” senses start to tingle when you start a sentence with “I don’t think choice is the answer”?
