We used to make fun of china for being so strict. But now the world seems to want to follow it's footsteps.
I say this with a tiny bit of humour but using brazil as an example. They openly praise china for handling "internet regulation". Those that control information have the power

@mrronkly @WumpusCentral It's what most security vendors says it's all handled on the users device but they all need to comply with local laws which require they to store data up to x amount of days.
So it's half truths. They do keep data, they have to.
Yoti got caught mishandling data for example.

When the hostile market is basically the world, you either comply or disappear

It's all caught in the crossfire. The age verification industry is expected to rake billions, so there is incentive to force this upon everyone. .

we have many countries that do this where half the internet doesn't work properly and people have to find work arounds like vpns. I don't think government cares about if works for regular people or not. it's about control not freedom.

To some of you who are mad at discord. Which is fair, do a bit more research. Unfortunately discord is also being forced by many governments to implement this under threat of multimillion fines and nation wide ban. Most recent case in the spotlight being Brazil, but it's happening in Australia, uk e.u union and the u.s.

They are passing laws in everywhere to force compliance. Soon this wont be a company choice but a state, country one.

Essa nota tecnica fala sobre a liberdade de expressao. A nota em si nao e uma lei mas um parecer. coincidentemente a CNMP limitou as notas tecnicas apos isso.

You would think if there was they would probably go wild with that headline instead.
