The following things can all be true:

1. The Americans leading the negotiations on Gaza truly care about Israel’s security and want to see Hamas disarmed. Same is true for @nmladenov.

2. The likelihood that Hamas will truly give up all of its hidden stores of AK-47s, RPGs, and explosives is zero.

3. The 20 Point Plan led to the release of the hostages, but it has problematic elements that Israel should have resisted, such as point 17 which requires Israel to hand control over areas to the ISF even if Hamas has not fully disarmed across Gaza.

4. Qatar and Turkey’s true goal is still to see Hamas survive and regain its military strength, even as they pretend to support the U.S. goal of disarming Hamas.

5. President Trump has midterms coming up.

Geopolitics are messy, that’s the reality.
