1. My top imaging trick to trainees is that before they spend any time taking pictures of the data they just sit there for a while & look at the stuff. Like seriously, sit back, crank some tunes, get cozy & spend some quality time with your slides.
From the prolific @LivUni team of @M_C_Schmid@AinhoaMielgo et al, another paper dissecting mechanistic underpinnings driving #PancreaticCancer metastasis. The authors identify four subtypes of “metastasis associated fibroblasts” or MAFs, of which hepatic stellate cell derived myMAFs play a pivotal role in the triumvirate of cancer cell, fibroblast & macrophage crosstalk. Signals from both metastatic cancer cells & macrophages (LIF & progranulin, respectively) are required to drive STAT3 dependent myMAF activation. These activated myMAFs in turn secrete osteopontin (aka SPP1), which promotes an immune suppressive metastatic milieu of macrophages, and drives cancer cell proliferation via periostin. What a complex web of interactions!!
