ANTISEMITISM: NEVER AGAIN IS NOW.
Was so very honored to join my alma mater @TelAvivUni at a panel discussion with Professor Ariel Porat, President of TAU, graciously moderated by The Honorable @LindaFrum , author, journalist, and former Senator of Canada.
Atty @MeitalStavinsky, who co-chairs the firm's #Israel Practice, participated in last weekend's Fall 4 TAU program hosted by the American Friends of @TelAvivUni. Meital joined a panel that addressed the recent increase in antisemitism around the world. Thanks to the speakers for sharing their insights on this important topic.
Antisemitism is trendy.
The teenaged daughter of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck wore a sweatshirt that symbolically claims that all of the state of Israel is Palestine - that there is no room for Israelis in this land.
What is most upsetting, and most telling WHY she feels she can wear this sweatshirt.
What does she even know about Israel and Palestine? Has she ever been here? Has she researched and read and interviewed and listened?
She likely doesn't even understand how and why her sweatshirt is not only offensive but threatening to Jews around the world.
But that doesn’t seem to matter anymore.
On Christmas Day, anti-Israel extremists vandalized my Bronx Office with red paint, symbolizing blood.
Covered in “blood” is a doll meant to symbolize Jesus, whom the vandals describe as a “Palestinian child messiah.”
The escalation in intimidation and incitement against Members of Congress feels like it is heading in a dangerous direction.
I, for one, will not be intimidated.
Yesterday, university presidents were questioned about their universities’ student codes of conduct.
Isn’t it time to develop codes of conduct for our university leaders? Shouldn’t we start with expecting university presidents to have the courage to unequivocally express their values?
How can they say over and over that they're focused on excellence and not have the courage to admit the obvious truth about their campuses?
Imagine if any of the leaders had said, “We have a huge mess on our campus and we need to name it and do the hard work to fix it.”
What a moment of moral clarity for all of academia if ONE university president had told Congress, “Yes, calling for genocide against Jews violates our code of conduct and our values.”
Yesterday’s hearing generated despondency across the Jewish world. Should the Jewish community become resigned to the fact that “elite” schools are no longer places for Jews because Jews simply matter a little less?
In the face of challenges much greater than these, Jews have always persevered. We will continue to be strong. But this is a challenge not only for the Jewish community. After all, moral clarity is always required, regardless of context.
