That’s why I treat friends exactly how they treat me, not because I’m vindictive but because I don’t want to assume a bigger place in someone’s life than they’ve made for me.
I have hundreds of dollars in the air courtesy UBA, my dollar card was declined in a couple of places last year but I still got debited and never reversed. Nigerian banks have set up their systems to rob us.
I sent some money to my neice, a student that has just finished her degree with a very good result, to say well done. An hour later, she called that she had not yet seen the alert. She asked me to check if the money had been reversed.
I told her that I had a sent receipt that showed that the money had been delivered. I sent her the receipt and told her to calm down and that it might be network connectivity issues. I was thinking in my mind “These students! Always impatient about money.🙄”
Two days later, she called again that she still hadn’t seen the money. I told her to go to her bank. I was so sure that the money was there and it was just the alert system that didn’t work.
Today, she went to the bank and said they had told her that the money didn’t arrive. I asked her to get a bank statement and she got one and sent it to me by WhatsApp.
That was when now called my bank. A bored sounding guy (I will deal with that issue separately) took the details and just said it would be reversed tomorrow. I asked why money had left my account FOUR DAYS AGO and still wasn’t delivered. He just said “Network.”
So, if it had been someone with more money in their account than a student, they may just assume that the money came in once I had sent them a send receipt that clearly said that the money had been delivered to their account.
So, if the money was not in my account and was not in hers either, where was it? Would it have been reversed automatically if nobody and picked it up and complained?
