In 2018, Aidan from Slinger shared his story with me about living with Ectodermal Dysplasia and having his insurance company refuse to pay for his health care. Today, I reunited with Aidan’s family to celebrate the progress we’ve made in ensuring kids like him are covered.
Over 200 of our volunteers converged on the Virginia statehouse today, just days into the 2024 legislative session, to call on lawmakers to pass strong gun safety laws that save lives. With our volunteers now making up 20 percent of the new gun sense House majority after the 2023 election, VA legislators are fired up to get common sense gun safety bills passed through both chambers! #VaLeg #MomsAreEverywhere
Thank you @Sam_Rasoul for meeting with us & talking about the Community Builders pilot program to utilize schools to prevent youth gun violence. @MomsDemand#MomsAreEverywhere#valeg
Access to assault weapons and high-capacity magazines make our gun violence crisis all the more deadly. TY to @SenatorHeinrich, @SenAngusKing, @SenMarkKelly, and @SenatorBennet for championing an innovative, lifesaving bill that will get weapons of war out of our neighborhoods. It’s beyond time for Congress to make this happen!
GREAT NEWS! With @MomsDemand showing up in support (& the gun lobby showing up in opposition), Virginia Beach City Council voted to ban guns in the city's Housing Resource Center. This is the 18th local ordinance passed in Virginia since 2020. #WatchUsWork#MomsAreEverywhere
Thank you @HopeforVirginia for talking to #Charlottesville@MomsDemand about your enhanced background check legislation! This bill would foster a culture of responsibility & undoubtably save lives.
ELECTIONS MATTER: This week in Virginia, NINE of our volunteers were elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, flipping the chamber to a Gun Sense Majority. This means that our volunteers now make up nearly 20 percent of the new Gun Sense Majority in the Virginia House, forging a clearer path to the passage of gun safety laws in the Commonwealth.
What’s more, another eight volunteers were elected to down ballot offices, including school board and county supervisor!
We are so proud of our volunteers who stepped up to #DemandASeat in the name of gun safety, regardless of the outcome. With more gun sense champions in office, we will shift the tide on gun violence, election by election!
UPDATE: As of this morning, FORTY NINE @MomsDemand volunteers across the US won their races last night - from school boards to mayoral races to statehouses. In fact, @MomsDemand volunteers-turned-lawmakers now make up nearly 10 percent of the Virginia House of Delegates. 💪💪💪
