Sall Grover's loss on Friday was shocking, in that it's ludicrous.

I think of it the same as same sex marriage. The Australian population, for decades, polled as being broadly pro same sex marriage. In statistically 'what would it take to get a referendum over the line' terms.

Right now, if you held a referendum, or a gutless plebiscite vote, a majority of Australians in the majority of states would vote that women's rights should prevail. Because they think that. This is clear 2/3
