Before 2Pac had “California Love”, it was a solo Dr. Dre song.

When 2Pac was bailed out of jail by Suge Knight, Suge made all Death Row Records artists give up their best material for 2Pac’s Death Row debut.

Dre gave up “California Love” which was intended to be a single for his sophomore album (“The Chronic 2”). Whilst Dre had to give the track up under Suge’s orders, Dre still managed to keep a verse on the track. Here’s the other verse Dre recorded but was removed in favor of Pac’s verse.
