Ford and GM have turned their back on it. For Ford, I dont know why, but GM seems to have refused because the safety upgrades would be too expensive... exchanging babies for profit to keep prices down by a couple hundred bucks per car, but this problem can be done much cheaper.

About a year and a half ago, a moment similar to this one happened with my son. It's awe-inspiring, seeing God's creation, a new person, leaving the womb to join us "on the outside."

It hurts to see, though... the tone in our case was... rushed.

We had just left an amazing ultrasound. He was growing absurdly fast... and strong. At 33 weeks, he was already about 3 weeks bigger than average. We were on track for a normal birth process with him already head down and ready to go weeks before many kids.

Until the guy in the worktruck showed up to run our red light, only 1 turn later.

It got so rushed and urgent after a nurse got to them that my wide and son were whisked away... I couldn't follow. Our daughter was with us to share in the excitement and watch the ultrasound with us.

I wasn't able to be there, my wife went in alone... and she knew she was alone. They put her completely under, there was no time to slowly calculate all the variables, and my son was in serious danger.

When taken out, my son wasn't moving anymore. His skin was a harsh white. He looked dead already. The amniotic fluid wasn't clear. Too much of my son's blood had already leaked out into it... over 1/3rd of his blood supply.

He was dying, and it took hours to stabilize him.

What followed was 3 horrible days of trying to visit him, while also trying to be there for my wife, and watch my daughter.

NICU rules limited visitors to adults only, so we struggled. We were far from home with out too many who could watch our daughter without a long drive, so there were too few moments to be with him for the 3 days he was fighting.

The thing is, it was all preventable. Ford said they'd solve it over 15 years ago. Volvo and GM did even earlier than that.

And the federal government has been ignoring it for over half a century.

Please, help me equip more families with everything they need to keep these babies alive.
