A safe space for men to explore and understand their own relationship with misogyny and patriarchy - with the aim of dismantling male systems of oppression
The fact that we live in a society where the dog whistle misogynistic rantings of a white middle class man get published in the mainstream media just goes to show how normalised these views have become.. https://t.co/4CP2Mn15N4
The intersection of race and class with gender and misogyny. It’s easy to tell ourselves that young people are so much more informed and things must be getting better - surveys like this challenge that cosy narrative.. https://t.co/I4uNRlX6zd
This weeks meeting at @swcityfarm was perhaps the most powerful yet. We talked about sex and relationships, and about the way patriarchy shapes the way we think about it, our partners and ourselves - as well as our relationship to pleasure..
We talked about sex as a site of power, pressure, pleasure and shame, and of the expectations we and others place on our bodies and our sexual relationships.
Still reflecting on Tuesday’s meeting at @swcityfarm. We discussed, amongst other things, male suicide, whether we find it easier to offer or to ask for help, what gets in the way and why, and how we might support each other to feel more able to both offer and to ask for help..
Excellent report on suicide-highly recommend for all who work with men.
"The magic key to male suicide prevention could be built around meeting men’s
actual needs; recognising/accepting who they are, not who the system thinks
they should be & what they should have to accept."
