Afrocanthium keniense is a species very close to our hearts at @MazingiraHub.

It's endemic to generally the Nairobi area (very limited distribution) and now vulnerable to extinction due to habitat loss according to data by @bgci and @IUCNRedList

In Kenya, out of the possible 1200 tree species, 5 species are listed by the @IUCNRedList as Critically endangered.

We can do something to restore these species and save them from eternal extinction through our upcoming indigenous tree day.

However, the trees’ habitats are lost, to deforestation from population growth and industrial agriculture.

Kenya’s forest cover is estimated to be about 7.4% of the total land area, which is a far cry from the recommended global minimum of 10%.
In recent years, Kenya’s forests have been depleted at an alarming rate of about 5,000 hectares per annum. #ClimateCrisis #ClimateEmergency
