Some leftists and the media are attempting to resurrect an outdated concept from the pre-World War II era: the idea that the two opposing political forces we face today are fascism and communism.

The origins of this notion are more disgraceful than many would admit publicly. Mussolini rose to power by claiming that this was the only choice available to Italy. Hitler did the same for Germany. It is well-documented that in Germany’s 1933 election, the Communist Party was instructed by its leaders to vote for the Nazis. The rationale was that they could later fight the Nazis for power, but first, they had to help destroy their common enemy: capitalism and its parliamentary system.

The fraudulent nature of the “fascism versus communism” issue is evident. It presents two versions of the same political system as opposites, eliminating the option of considering capitalism. It shifts the choice from “Freedom or dictatorship?” to “Which kind of dictatorship?” thereby establishing dictatorship as an inevitable reality and offering only a selection of rulers. According to proponents of this deception, the choice is between a dictatorship of the wealthy (fascism) and a dictatorship of the poor (communism).

This fraudulent concept collapsed in the 1940s, following World War II. It became increasingly evident that fascism and communism are not two opposing forces but rather two rival factions vying for the same territory. Both are forms of statism, based on the collectivist principle that individuals are mere slaves of the state. Both are socialistic, both in theory, in practice, and in the explicit declarations of their leaders. Under both systems, the poor are oppressed, and the rich are expropriated in favor of a ruling elite. Furthermore, fascism is not a product of the political “right,” but rather of the “left.” The fundamental issue is not “rich versus poor,” but rather “man versus the state” or “individual rights versus totalitarian government,” which ultimately means “capitalism versus socialism.”
