TPD’s RICO, BANE and RONNIE enjoyed a walk around @theAlbertDock today as their initial General Purpose Dog course comes to an end. All 3 dogs have worked hard over the last 8 weeks to be ready for their licensing next week to become fully fledged Police Dogs.

Last night PD Ziggy deployed to a report of 6 males in balaclavas suspected of trying to break into a property. Whilst searching the team were confronted by said males who immediately fled. PD Ziggy chased them down both locating & detaining 3 males hiding in a garden 👏🦷

Last night we worked with @MerPolTraffic in the pursuit of a dangerous driver who made threats to ram a police vehicle. Safe to report his threats were fruitless after he was expertly TPAC’d & greeted with the threat of 42 teeth from PD Ziggy as he was removed from the car 👏 💪

Yesterday we assisted @MerPolTraffic in the pursuit of a stolen car before it crashed with 2 males fleeing on foot. PD Ziggy & his handler gave chase through an estate & thanks to an instant containment the males were detained. Ziggy later found 2 discarded phones in a garden 👏

PD JoJo was quickly into action after a male wanted for harassment offences fled as officers arrived. JoJo tracked him through alleyways to where he was found hiding behind rubbish. It wasn't quite the hiding place he thought it was, and he was arrested. #PoliceDogs #TheNoseKnows

#TPAC Ziggy strikes again! Last night PD Ziggy & his handler observed 2 powerful electric adapted motorbikes being ridden recklessly. A co-ordinated approach flushed one bike towards Ziggy before the rider made a poor decision to run off. Ziggy deployed...male detained 🦷 🚲 👏

This morning Dog patrols from Syndicate 2 supported officers in both locating & detaining a male wanted for drug supply. He was seen to discard his phone into a heavily overgrown garden but PD Ziggy made light work of locating said 📱 which no doubt contains crucial evidence 👏

Yesterday a wanted male fled from an address & disappeared. PD Poppy offered her services and located the male who then made a strange decision to flee from his hiding place. He thought he was on the run to freedom until he seen Poppy in hot pursuit & wisely gave up #clevergirl

On Saturday night a drunk driver thought he could escape punishment for his actions by fleeing from his car and hiding in a bush. It didn’t take PD Poppy long to track and locate the suspect bringing him into custody. Well done Pops 👏

🤩 Sue Hilton is one of the longest serving police officers in our dog section.

Today, after 27 years in the dog section & 31 years at Merseyside Police, she is retiring from the force.

Sue is described as a “privilege to work alongside and be trained by”. Best of luck 💙 🐶

Yesterday we said goodbye to one of the very best. Retired PD Deema was a truly special girl who served Merseyside Police with courage, loyalty and determination throughout her career, earning multiple commendations along the way. She'll never be forgotten. Run free, Deema. 💙🐾

This electric motorcycle failed to stop for Matrix Disruption colleagues in L8. RPU attended along with @MerPolDogs to assist. following a lengthy pursuit the riders luck ran out and he was detained. Rider arrested for numerous offences and motorcycle seized #OffTheCrusher.

🐶 We wanted to give you an update on RPD Sky, who retired back in February!

She is absolutely loving retired life and yesterday featured on the mid-morning show at BBC Radio Merseyside with Inspector Phil McManus, who heads up our Dog Section, and Martin O’Neill from ‘The Retired Police Dog Benevolent Fund for Merseyside’ charity.

Sky, Phil and Martin were invited to the studio to talk about the amazing work of our police dogs in Merseyside, Sky’s career, what happens to police dogs when they retire, and the vital support provided by The Retired Police Dog Benevolent Fund for Merseyside.

She may be retired, but you can’t take the detection skills out of Sky! She was full of beans and very keen to investigate all corners of the studio space – lots to see, hear and of course, smell!

Sky was good as gold during the interview, although she was keen to see what was happening on the mixing desk and didn’t want to miss anything 👀

Our police dogs play a crucial role in keeping communities safe – from tracking suspects, supporting officers in dangerous situations, and protecting the public. Our dogs are part of the policing family. They’re exceptionally well cared for throughout their service, with dedicated handlers who build a strong bond with them and ensure their welfare comes first.

During the interview, Martin said 🗣️ “Police dogs give years of loyal service, and when they retire, they deserve the very best care. Our charity exists to support them in that next stage of their lives.

“When retired, police dogs don’t receive a pension, and vet bills can be significant. We help those who care for the dogs in their retirement by contributing towards those costs so they can get the treatment they need.”

The @MerseysideRPD is run by unpaid volunteers: All money raised is by public donations. The charity has been established to assist those who take on the care of a retired police dog in helping them pay for veterinary bills, as well as supporting the dog in its retirement 💙

In the early hours of this morning a male wanted for 2 serious assaults fled from a domestic incident. PD Poppy arrived on scene & tracked the suspects movements leading into woodland before locating the male hiding in undergrowth 👏 #arrested #thenoseknows

Last night a wanted male made off from officers a number of times & continued disappearing into the night. His luck run out when we deployed PD Ziggy who tracked him through an alleyway before bringing the game to a conclusion as he found him hiding #gameover #arrested 👏

Yesterday new boy PD Gary assisted patrols after a vehicle was stopped travelling into Merseyside. Gary searched the vehicle & it didn’t take him long to find a large quantity of cash in the region of £20000 concealed within the boot #thenoseknows #cleverboy 👏

Thank you for all your kind messages. PD Ike and Dobbie were checked over by our vets after the incident and did not need any treatment. The handlers are recovering well @MerPolDogs

A police dog vehicle carrying PD Ike and PD Dobby was rammed during a pursuit.
The vehicle later crashed and the driver made off on foot.
PD Poppy was deployed to assist, and she wasn't having that.
A short search later, the offender was located hiding nearby.
Good girl Poppy 👏

🚔 A wanted male was believed to be travelling in a vehicle. Following a coordinated stop by RPU and the Dog Unit, the vehicle was successfully stung and brought to a halt.

The male was detained, and PD Dobby searched the vehicle, locating cannabis resin. 🐾👏
