AOC: I actually think the more important advice that I would give would be to my incumbent colleagues, which is: you will create a self-fulfilling prophecy by deciding who these young women are before you’ve met them.
And if you are already panicking and sending little messages in your group chats about how these people need to be reined in, tamped down, and shown their place, you are creating the antagonistic dynamic that we do not need.
These are two young, talented, intelligent women who got elected against all odds, against millions of dollars. Perhaps there is something we can learn from them.
MYTH: Healthcare fraud only happens in blue states like California.
FACT: Trump’s OWN DOJ just released a report finding the TOP 2 STATES for fraud in recent enforcement actions are led by Republican Governors!
This crosses every line.
Disagree on policy. Debate politics. Vote for whoever you want. But targeting someone’s family with a false report is dangerous, cruel, and completely indefensible.
@RepLaMonica showed up for her community.
Now she's facing 17 years in prison for doing her job — conducting oversight and holding this administration accountable.
Let me be clear: targeting elected officials for doing their jobs is what authoritarians do.
LaMonica, I'm with you in this fight.
A note to my friends who still back Trump:
I am not here to dunk on you. I am writing because you have a working brain, and this story insults it.
The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool got a $14 million paint job. Shortly thereafter the water turned green and the new “American flag blue” coating started peeling off the bottom in sheets. Trump says vandals did it. He claims, without evidence, that someone took a knife and cut a 300-foot slit, a number that grew to 350 feet while he was still talking.
Back on May 4, Trump bragged about that same coating and said, if you had a knife, you could not even cut it, so strong, like powerful rubber. He cannot have it both ways.
And the green water?
A George Mason scientist tested it and found ordinary, non-toxic algae, the kind that blooms in any shallow sunny pool. To fight it, crews dumped hydrogen peroxide into the water.
Hydrogen peroxide is also a paint stripper.
That, not sabotage or vandalism, is the obvious reason the paint came off. They wrecked their own paint job, then blamed phantom vandals for it.
The lone "vandal" they paraded is a 67-year-old Olympian who touched a flap of paint already peeling on its own.
Here is the thing. If they will look you in the eye and lie about something this small, something you can see with your own eyes, ask yourself what else they are lying to you about.
Again, you have a working brain. People like Karoline Leavitt are counting on you to stay loyal instead of exercising independent thought.
Prove them wrong.
Today is the anniversary of the day SCOTUS cost women the right to make choices about their bodies for themselves & I have not forgotten. When I vote, the most important issue I consider is which candidate will protect me and my daughter from becoming second class citizens.
Let me be really clear about what just happened.
The head of the U.S. Postal Service sat in front of the United States Senate and said the quiet part loud: no voter list, no mail ballots. Full stop.
You don’t get to look away from this one.
This is a proposed rule. It’s being fought in court. But the fact that it was said — that a federal official openly threatened to withhold your ballot — that matters.
Your vote is yours. Not the administration’s. Not USPS’s. Yours.
Stay informed. Stay loud.
Wow. Donald Trump is holding affordable housing hostage until Congress passes his voter suppression bill.
He is literally delaying help for families struggling to afford a home in order to make it harder for married women and Black Americans to vote.
He is a sick man!
In yet ANOTHER unsigned court order, Trump’s Supreme Court majority just made it harder for disabled Americans to vote.
They're literally weakening protections for some of the most vulnerable people in our country.
This is voter suppression!
Scientists in Atlanta were stopped from criticizing the Trump admin at a scientific conference, so let me do it here:
Trump is destroying biomedical research in America, and it will take decades to get back on track.
Spread the word. Stand up for science.
A public health leader’s first duty is to prevent suffering.
Vaccines have done that extraordinarily well for generations. Dismantling proven protections is easy.
Living with the consequences is much harder.
Texas is planning to transfer 5,000 disabled students in Houston to "hub" campuses, which will potentially segregate them from the students in their neighborhood schools.
The state made this decision without any meaningful input from communities.
Families in Texas are demanding a pause before this major restructuring proceeds, and a federal civil rights investigation is underway.
When I was a kid, the highlight of my day in school was passing the special education classes and dapping them up and chatting with them in-between the bell. It was always a high point. No matter how bad things were, they never failed to brighten up my day and I hope they felt the same about me. The thought of our nation's schools losing these meaningful interactions makes me so upset.
I'm not an expert on disability education, but I know the implications of rounding up a certain group of vulnerable people and concentrating them into a centralized institution where their interactions and personal agency are limited.
Outrageous.
Dr. Justin Ryder, a pediatric surgeon and expert at Northwestern, was booted from a conference for sharing an article on federal cuts to biomedical research.
This is the impact of Trump's administration.

“Trump's administration has redirected $352m in federal funds toward the president's ballroom project…The law stipulates the money may only be spent on Secret Service personnel, training facilities, technology and related costs, not construction.”

Mohsen Mahdawi was asked on his final citizenship interview whether he would be willing to protect and defend the Constitution.
Within seconds of saying yes, ICE agents stormed in, arrested him, handcuffed his wrists and chained his feet, and threw him in a cell.
Police crashed into a man’s van twice on purpose, fired 27 shots at him, and while the vehicle lay on its side, burning, at least eight cops watched as 34-year old Navy veteran John Andrew Jenuwine bled out and died inside. It turned out police chased the wrong man.
