A couple of weeks ago @TheEconomist focused on #viruses and discussed the symbiotic evolution of viruses and humans and the potential of metagenomic screening to discover bacteriophages and harness the viral sequences for antibiotic-resistant therapy. ⬇️

Los virus pueden ser la solución para combatir a las superbacterias, que cada año causan la muerte de 700.000 personas en el mundo. Los virus bacteriófagos son inocuos para humanos, animales y plantas.

After 2019 in Trondheim, Prof @trevorcharles will be hosting the 2021 Functional Metagnomics International conference @UWaterloo#Canada
The @Metafluidics_EU members of the organising committee hope that this event will take place 23-27 May 2021! 🤞🤞🤞

Microfluidics at its best: CARMEN technology uses #microfluidics chips to scale up CRISPR-based diagnostics and run thousands of tests simultaneously using nanoliter-size droplets. It can search 1000+ samples at a time or detect 160+ viruses incl. #COVID19

It could also help scientists create new crop varieties that grow much faster than current ones: "a boon for agriculture in a world with a booming population".
Microfluidics and Synthetic Biology breakthrough @ScienceMagazine ! New artificial chloroplasts created in cell-sized droplets by encapsulating photosynthetic membranes and a synthetic enzymatic cycle that fixes carbon dioxide
This is big! Using microfluidics and genes from 9 different organisms, scientists have created artificial chloroplast that can do more efficient photosynthesis outside plants! This could be engineered into crops or tweaked to produce other metabolites https://t.co/T3uxyR25WE
This new "outside-the-plant" photosynthesis system might eventually convert CO2 into useful chemicals, e.g. new drug molecules or organic compounds that plants need to grow.
Happy birthday to our great @MetaFluidics_EU partner @drop_tech !! We are proud to have collaborated for nearly half of the company's lifetime on #microfluidics and #droplets screening! Keep up the good work guys!🥳🥳🥳
Interesting article about where @MetaFluidics_EU
partner @eglezpastor@C_Astrobiologia samples for #extremophiles, the microorganisms surviving extreme conditions that we study in our @EU_H2020 project. To know more, check out the video on our homepage! https://t.co/km3BbTxSP4
