そもそも何で僕がブロックチェーンゲームを作ろうと思ったか？
2年半前のAxie Infinityが作った「遊んで稼ぐ（Play to Earn）」の衝撃からブロックチェーンゲームについて本格的に調べ出し、トークンやNFTを使ったゲーム体験という新しい領域に、稲妻が走りました。文字通り興奮して眠れない日々が続きました。
ブロックチェーンを使うことで、新しいゲーム体験が提供できる。ものすごいことが起こる。そんな思いを私だけでなく、世界中の人たちが感じ、たくさんのブロックチェーンゲームプロジェクトが発足しました。
そして2021年春にはSTEPNが日本でも話題に。「歩いて稼ぐ（Move to Earn）」というコンセプトは新しい時代を予感させ、これからもっと多くのヒットプロダクトが生まれるのではないかと思われていました。
しかしそれから1年半。仮想通貨業界は色々な不祥事もあり、完全に冬の時代を迎えました。多くのプロジェクトが撤退し、ヒットタイトルが出るどころか、ユーザー数も減少の一途とたどりました。僕もプロジェクトの方向性に迷い、不安で不安で眠れない毎日が続きました。
今でも目立ったヒットが出てない、ブロックチェーンゲームをプレイするユーザーが多くない理由はシンプルだと思います。
web2ゲームユーザーは「面白い」ゲームを求めている。一方、web3ユーザーは「稼ぐこと」を求めている。
web2ゲームよりも「面白くもなく」、defiなどのweb3プロダクトよりも「稼げない」、そんな「ゲーム」を誰がプレイするのか？
そこに答えられるプロダクトが出てないのだと思います。
そういったこともあり、ブロックチェーンゲームをプレイするユーザーは、現時点ではまだまだごくわずかです。しかし、僕はブロックチェーン×ゲームにより、「新しいユーザー体験」を提供できると確信しています。
ゲーム内アイテムやゲーム内ポイントが実世界で売り買いできることは、どう考えても面白い。
しかも、トークンを使うことで、単なるスマホゲームを超えた、色々な価値体験が提供でき、運営とユーザーが一体となれる様な新しいコミュニティの形が作れます。
それらはブロックチェーンでしか実現できない価値だし、新しい「ゲーム体験」の可能性だと思います。
まだまだweb3、ブロックチェーンを扱うUIUXは難しいく、いわゆるweb2層とweb3層には大きな隔たりがあります。
ですが、僕はweb3やブロックチェーンは世の中に圧倒的に新しい価値を提供できる、なので近い将来もっと世の中に普及されると確信しています。
そしてそんなweb2とweb3の狭間にある2023年現在、「コインムスメ」は両者の橋渡しになるプロダクトだと思っています。
ゲームを主軸としたプロジェクトなので、「面白いゲーム」であることは大前提ですが、それを超えて、ビットコインやイーサリアムなどのトークンを、もっと身近に感じてもらうことで、ブロックチェーン、web3の理解が世の中にもっと広がり、便利な世界が実現されることに、少しでも貢献出来たら素晴らしいなと思っています。
ここまで偉そうに語りましたが、来年以降、コインムスメがどうなるかは全く未知数です。
客観的に見ると、成功しているプロダクトがほとんどない中、業界への認知は取れていても、一般への認知はまだまだ全然というのが事実だと思います。
ですが、成功例が少ないからこそ、チャレンジする価値があると思いますし、やり切る自信もあります。
僕の仕事人生、紆余曲折あってゲーム開発にたどり着いた15年間でした。
「日本人として、世界に向けて、価値あるプロダクトを作り続ける」
そんな思いもこもった僕の世界に向けての最初のタイトルになります。
