I've been working on embodied agent all my career. The ultimate vision is to realize the scenes in Matrix: full-body, real-time avatars of both humans and AI, sharing the same virtual space, interacting with objects in physically realistic ways, receiving rich multimodal feedback, and forgetting that the world is but a simulation.

While the avatars need to be scanned with special equipments now, Zuck hinted that a smartphone selfie video will soon be enough. I think it's well within reach in a couple of months, given recent advances in 3D generative models. Fine-grained finger tracking and full-body tracking are coming up next.

Keep in mind, what we see here is the worst that this tech will ever be.
