One of the most pleasing moments of being a prof is when your students produce work that makes you sit back and go, "Wow! That's a great piece of writing. They should try and get that published ๐๐๐."
@cpeck3 Absolutely...the last 15 years of provincial governments, irrespective of their stripe, have done very little for public education, esp. higher education where they've worked out that demand will always exceed supply...so let students pay. It's a foul policy...needs to change ๐

In the end, I suppose, unless things in universities change dramatically, I'll still be the arbiter of what is quality student work or not. If the wrong questions are asked, the wrong answers will be constructed. Looking forward to fall teaching ๐
I've been thinking about how to 'manage' AI with my courses. I remember when powerful calculators came into classrooms. Teachers were worried then too. The same with computers etc. But there is one thing that holds true with using tech...you need to know what questions to ask...
and what questions you can ask depends on what you know already. Knowledge is still so important; poor questions-poor answers & you still need knowledge to establish veracity, authority and accuracy of an answer...that is what I think will distinguish students' from each other.
@ian_doktor Type something like 'bush fire smoke effects Australia ecology' and you will begin to get information on this from a country that has a long history of bushfires.
@A_Bellocchi@ArnauAmat Thank you so much! It's truly an honor to be in print. Working on this book chapter with such talented coauthors and editors like you has been an incredible journey! @Metacog01@BoonHJ2016
@ls_gibson This is a problem with traditional publishing...the journal controls some parameters...and the reviewers come back with "well, you need to add this, or justify that, or explain this more" and you find yourself putting those 2000 words back in. How to change this? ๐ฅด
A large part of finding personal peace is finding tolerance for diversity..and knowing that others have different views and orientations to you..about many things. I don't understand the hate we observe increasingly every day. You don't have to be right or agree about everything.
@ian_doktor If those involved in science education in schools based their practice on evidence, science classrooms would look very different because the teaching and students would be very different.
Today's @RogersHelps outage has me wondering if it's a good idea to have a 'cheapie' back-up plan with another provider. I predict 100% this outage will not be Rogers' last, and being prepared is important. I'm grateful to still have a landline, and that it's not with them. ๐
