Stop building mansions in the village mbu retirement home!

You and I know you like the city too much, you are not retiring in the village, away from your golf course, away from all the fancy dinners at Serena. Away from all your friends who live in Kampala.
You don’t even know anyone in Kanungu anymore, all the guys you grew up with are working in Kampala, Nairobi and other cities all over the world. The only two people you know there are your parents.

When you are older, the need for quality healthcare also increases, and you don’t want to be 600Kms away from Kampala hospital relying on an understaffed health centre IV with no ambulance and a faulty generator when you get a heart complication at 4:00AM.

Also, to maintain your lifestyle (the golfing, the travels, latest cars, your wife’s shopping sprees in Dubai) you need to have a stable income, just like your job gave you. And nope, don’t jump into farming or business. My guy, you have been an IT guy all your life and now you want to get all your NSSF to start a chicken farm at 55.😳 Mbu you want to build rentals in Kireka managed by your unemployed son (the one who barely finished s6 but knows all the bars on Acacia and Bandali rise)🤣🤣 dey play.

If you already have a mansion in the village. Yes, the one you only use once a year for 2 weeks in December. Sell it today and invest in semi liquid and liquid assets like bonds or a good unit trust fund. You’ll get a stable income while your premium stays intact.

Also, ba mzeyi please stop lying to yourselves that your kids currently studying in the USA and Japan will come back and stay in your village mansions when you die. Most times, kids who study abroad build their own lives abroad. The best they will do for you is return home to sell the mansion and then go back.

And now my baganda brothers and sisters. Stop buying too much land. If you are 70 years old and need emergency surgery in India, the land can’t get sold fast enough. Or you’ll sell it at a loss.
Most of you my people are asset rich and cash poor. Why do you have a networth of 2 Billion shs all in land. 🧐 That is primitive accumulation of wealth. Diversify. Have hard assets but also semi liquid and liquid (An asset which can give you emergency money in less than 24 hours.)

So, please sell that mansion on a hill in Kanungu and thank me later.

A justice system that favours criminals over victims is a broken system. This is not just the Government's fight, it is ours. Families, communities and leaders must all reject crime in every form. We must report criminals. We must protect each other. We must demand justice. We must refuse to normalise crime. We must refuse to live in fear. We must refuse to accept a country where young lives like Odele's are stolen without consequence. This is not about politics. This is about human life. Odele Borris had dreams. He had ambitions. He had a future. But his life was taken in an act of pure brutality. He will never walk into the UHRC office again. He will never finish his internship. He will never fulfill the promise of his bright future. And we must ask ourselves: How many more Borris Odeles must we lose before we act? We cannot bring him back. But we can ensure that his death was not in vain.
